I have enclosed several cab shots that I hope will help in future designs and improving the exhisting ones. I find the MSTS cab focuses to much on the controls and the view out the front window is secondary. I am still fighting the route design so I do not have a clue about the cab design. I hope some one can resolve the major issue I have with the cab. I find the left arrow key a waste viewing the left cab seat. Their should be a way to have the up arrow key focus on the view out the front window and speed recorder and the left arrow key should focus on the control stand for those wishing to click on the controls, which could be modeled correctly instead of formed around the window. I think the down arrow key should give you a view out the rear cab window. Not sure if this can happen but this is what needs to happen for a more realistic cab. My favorite control stand is the EMD cash box style. The N&W had over 300 late model GP-9s with this style of controler with 26L brakes. Sure would like to see some one model this. The GP-7 cab that is in the archive is great, with a little fine tuning that could be an awsome cab.One more issue with MSTS when operating at night it would be nice
if the cab was almost dark, and the gages had lights.

RE: Cab Design Information

Nwwabash, Unfortunately is it NOT possible at this stage with the current MSTS, to have it your way. It would be nice though.
If some-one hasn't tackled the cab, when I finished my present project, I'll have a go at it.
Johan.

RE: Cab Design Information

Well, I actually think it's a good idea, but it would have to be slightly modified to work. The thing that gets me about cabs for MSTS is that for a lot of them, they do focus on getting a view out the front window and a straight-on view of the controls in the same view. Of course, for many locos the control stands are angled, and it just looks wrong to me when the controls are "warped" to fit nicely under the window. So, to expand on the original idea, why not make the "main" cabview focus mostly on the control stand area, and then use the other buttons to look forward and around a little bit. That way, angled control stands wouldn't have to be "moved" and forced to fit squarely underneath the front window.Just an opinion, and an idea. . .troub

RE: Cab Design Information

I think you all have done a great job with the cabs considering
the limitations of MSTS. Its got to be hard trying to please everyone. Thats why its best to stick to the basics. I just have noticed that a couple of
basic views necessary to operating a locomotive could be improved on.The area that could use some attention is the cab seat front and rear view. Out the window is great.I hope the images help with future endeavors.
If anyone would like larger images of the cab views let me know.

RE: Cab Design Information

One of the best cabs that uses angles on the control stand is from Dekosoft. The SD35 cost $5.99 and is worth that just for the cab in my opinion.

RE: Cab Design Information

P.S. The picture is a little fuzzy, due to shrinking it down for size considerations, and those Cab signals are not included, as they are my own. Thanks, Kyle

RE: Cab Design Information

Thats about as close as you can get to the real thing.
Any chance of using the left arrow for a whole control stand
view?

RE: Cab Design Information

KWK,
There was a post several days ago explaining the whole thing.
Unfortunately I can not find it. However I did download the file but have not had the time to use it yet. "KEEP ON TRUCKIN BY TRAIN"
"Your Freight Goes Great, When it Goes By Great Northern"

RE: Cab Design Information

I have down loaded the SD35 from Deko and it is great.
I am going sto get the GP-38 also. Has high hood for
NS, N&W.
It may not have the most elaborate control stand but
the cab views is what is awsome. -Has a good forward view
-up arrow , down arrow (same head out as usual)
-right arrow (in cab view out rear cab door)
-left arrow (front shot out left side cab window instead of
view of cab seat)I can say this is well worth the $5.99 for the loco's
and the cabs.http://dekorats.com/design/msts/index.html
