I have no problems at all using the Common.Snd folder, but the Common.Cab folder is giving me fits! Part of the problem is that I don't fully understand how it works. For common sounds, you have to put the whole command string in the eng file, i.e. Sound ( "..\\..\\common.snd\\EMD_SD40\\sd40eng.sms" ) Do you have to do this with the Common.Cab, too, or just copy the *.cvf to the specific loco after installing the particular cab (i.e. Dash 7) in Common.Cab?This next section is for JohannSteam. Johann, I've got several of your cabs, and each one gives a couple of different directions. One says to put the CVF_Alias folder and the CabviewJP folder in the GP38 folder (all of this inside the Common.Cab folder). The other says to put the CVF_Alias folder INSIDE the CabviewJP folder. Which is it? Also, the different cabs I have say to copy their contents into the CabviewJP folder, but if I do this, it wants to overwrite your other cab files. I don't think I want to do this- -I want to have several of your cabs, all of them in the Common.Cab folder. If those files overwrite existing files, will I still have each of your different cabs available to use? Nothing in your documentation states whether it does or not. If copying WILL overwrite the other files and create all new cab views (making your other cabviews unusable), how do I put in several of your cabviews WITHOUT them overwriting each other? Thanks! Finally, who created the SD40-2.cvf? I've got that file on my PC, but have no documentation as to where it came from. What's the difference between it and the gp38 cabview? Thanks! Clayton

What caused this? This was what I got when I switched to one of JohannSteam's cab views in the "New GP38cab" folder (his default name). There are two different gp38j.cvf files in there. One is inside the CVF_Alias folder and one is outside the CVF_Alias folder in the New GP38cab folder. This screenshot is from the one outside the CVF_Alias folder after I moved it into the CVF_Alias folder (after making a back up of the original one, of course!) The "default" gp38j.cvf file worked fine, but when I replaced it with the one outside the CVF_Alias folder, I get the above. Any ideas? BTW- -the cabs are awesome! I like the one where we look out the side window, but that computer screen in the middle has GOT to go! Can't have that on my 1970s Clinchfield locos! Clayton
It looks exactly like the default gp38 cab to me, and aliases all of the gp38 files. Maybe somethings different in some of the numbers, but I don't know. Anybody figured out where this thing came from b/c I don't have a clue! Maybe in one of the locos I downloaded? Anyway,Here's a screen of the jp38j file that's INSIDE the CVF_Alias folder that I mentioned in the above post:
And here's the one OUTSIDE the CVF_Alias folder (the one that's posted in the thread above, only this one is fixed!):
The major difference that I can see is that the controls have been moved around to more appropriate places. I guess the first one was Johan's "work in progress!"Finally, we have this "thing." :
I don't know what it is or who it came from, but it came "disguised" in a folder called "gp38cab2," which unzipped into a folder called "GP38Cabj_v2." What is this? A more photorealistic version of a gp38 cab, or some other cab? Thanks!
