I am curious?? I like to run at night a lot. You can see the stars, northern lights, street lights, etc. BUT, the cab inside is always the same brightness. If you look at or drive a real car or train. the cab interior is not as bright as it would be in the daytime, as at night. If it were, you would not be able to see very well outside. So the interior is dimmed and the dash lights are muted etc. Can anybody do this, or wants to. It would be kinda nice really to shut the room lights out and pull the grade up to summit. Any thoughts on this. JAck
Like this, you mean? Personally I can't see anyone spending the time on doing that! - LOLThe program doesn't allow for variations between day and night views (unlike Flight Sim) so the effect has to be built in from the start.-------SamSpade-------- ---"Power for You"---
Hi Sam, I found someone who does it.Look at http://msts.e-buzz.net/ select "Godstag" on the right side and download the TGOJ litt. Ma.Surprise, surprise!Mats Strid used two .eng files to point at the appropriate Cabviewfiles.I would appriciate it, when you would publish your night cab.And very many thanks by the way for all the splendid files, you published until today.Trevithick*** I am nothing without a little help of my friends...
To JackKlingbell: If you like running trains at night you should try using a locomotive with a MARS light - it's really neat. I got mine from dekosoft. Just a suggestion.
Trevithick,Thansk for the info. This is definitely the way to do 'night lighting' with the current version of MSTS. The major problem is not just darkening the cab but making sure that all the controls and displays follow suit or else they will stand out as squares of brightness against the darkened cab. This makes it a lot of work if done properly but certainly a good item to add to the project list.Pity it wasn't part of the spec as it was with Flight Simulator!-------SamSpade-------- ---"Power for You"---
I'm not exactly sure but I think that night operations are done without the interior cab lights on unless the loco is sitting still on a siding or such. Just like driving in your car with the dome light on at night would be very distracting it also dialaits(sp) the eyes making it very hard to see at distance or beyond the spray of the headlamps...? I don't know why MSTS does not have this in the sim but if I had a wish for the 2002 version? it would be that.. In fact the whole view control could use some serious reworking. Sticking your head out of the window is fine when the weather is co-operating but snow and rain would tend to make you want to look out the back of the cab. I know that the (real) control stand has lighted gauges and indicators for the positions of the DB,Throttle,Reverser, as well as sand and other subsystems and they wouldn't put them they if they didn't need them??Ronson..
