ATTENTION ALL
It has been pointed out to me by Richard Foley that in my Readme text of the GP38 Cab, I've put a statement as follows : "I hope by now that every-one has the Common.cab by Richard Foley....."
I sincerely would like to apologise to NALW as that statement should read " I hope by now that every-one has the Common.cab, by NALW ".
Please accept my humble apology, Johan

RE: Apology to NALW

Trainfreak, I think that the easiest way would be if you create the Common.cab Folder and copy the stuff across as explained in the readme text. If you maybe e-mail me, I will help you set up that folder......but please remember it the work of NALW. I will only help. you will find my E-mail address at the top left hand corner.
Johan.

RE: Apology to NALW

TF,
Johan is right! All you need to do is create a Common.Cab/GP38J folder on your PC and install his cab in there.... I use Johan's Cab myself and like it....
FWIW the Common.Cab and Common.Snd folders were conceived to be modular so you don't need to have all of them... just what ever you need to support the product(s) you are using.
They are open to use by all designers.
This is also why we named them Common.Cab and Common.Snd not NALW.cab and NALW.snd.....
Its easier to use than it sounds....
Follow Johan's directions and e-mails and you'll be up and running in no time....------Chuck Schneider---------

RE: Apology to NALW

By renaming some files I have managed to make a version of this cab where you don't need to have the common.cab - in stead it just installs as a replacement for the default cabview.
If there is any interest for it, and you'll give me permission, I can upload it here.
Also, just a couple of items of constructive criticism of your cab:
1. I think it'd look better if the horn lever was slightly higher
2. In order to better match the side views, it'd have been better if the gray colour on the walls was slightly darker.

RE: Apology to NALW

Thanks Dude....
however we have version 2 of Johan's gp38 cab waiting to get through Nels' processes...
It has an "automatic" installer so there is no need to "hack" things!------Chuck Schneider---------

RE: Apology to NALW

Will this be made so that also those who for various reasons don't want to install the common.cab can install it? If not - I can send you the .zip-file I've made, so you can make a version that installs directly in place of the default cab, without the common.cab directiory and alias.

RE: Apology to NALW

Actually no!
All our "stuff" uses the Common.Cab or Common.Snd scheme.... If you want to hack it for your own personal use then have at it!
You are the first and only one who has said they don't want to use this space saving scheme....

RE: Apology to NALW

I downloaded the new GP38 Cab and created and arranged all the folders as per the readme file. However when I started MSTS and use the default Gp38, the only view I got was controls, needles and tracks. The actual gages, window frames and cab interior were missing. I ran conbuilder to test the default locomotive and it said that I was missing the following files specified by gp38J.cvf:GP38frntJPP.ace
AcWndFrnace
CabSignal.aceAfter digging around in the gp38J.cvf file, I discovered what appeared to be some typos. The call to AcWndFrnace apparently SHOULD have to AcWndFrn.ace. (The period before .ace extension was missing. The GP38frntJPP.ace SHOULD have been GP38frntJPPa.ace. The "a" is in the texture file name but not in the call from the .cvf file. After fixing these problems in each instance of the gp38J.cvf file, lo and behold, everything looked great. I never found the CabSignal.ace file, but everything works without it. If anyone else has this problem, this should help.

RE: Apology to NALW

Hi Foghorn, thanks for pointing the problem and correction out.
The Cab signals has been omitted at this stage as I could not get it to work 100% but only 98%.
The good folks at NALW ( ChuckSc & SamSpade )has been so kind as to offer help on the Cab signals and cleared the "Blurr" effect of the gauges.
Thus expect a Update soon.
Johan.
