Well, here it is, ready for service. That new logo looks terrible on the nose, IMO. Just lacks symmetry. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=96775

No, I believe the back is logo-less.That paint scheme doesnt look too bad. Who remembers back in 1995 when the Santa Fe became BNSF, we were all bagging the "new" H1 and H2 paint like no tommorow. I think that H3 paint is growning on me. I have seen worse!! BTW: The logo reminds me of FreightRail's logo they used in the early 1990's down here in Australia.>Mike Forster<

RE: H3 GEVO: YUK!

I wasn't a big fan of the H1 scheme, but I liked the cigar band on the H2 scheme. Reminds me of the old ATSF warbonnets...

RE: H3 GEVO: YUK!

Just as lone as they don't patch the warbonnets with the new logo like UP did to some SP and Rio Grande units.

What I think looks strange is that the stripes on the sides seem to partially end nowhere. Is it supposed to be like that? Looks like the paint job hasn't been finished....------------------------------

It would have looked really good if they kept the ATSF cigar band on the front

So is the dark color still green, or have they changed it to black? Looks black, but maybe that's just the picture. Clayton

RE: H3 GEVO: YUK!

the horns are like that on all the gevos and most of BNSF's AC4400s. I think its a bad effort to make them quieter by blowing more sound backwards instead of forwards...but um, yeah the K5LA is loud no matter what way it faces.Kevin V.

RE: H3 GEVO: YUK!

I thought that BNSF used K3LAs on all of their new locos? I don't think K5LAs are all that loud. I hear S3Ls all the time on former Conrail units and they knock your socks off too if you stand near the tracks when they blow.

> As I understood what I read somewhere else, that's the standard horn now. I may be wrong though.Hmmm... So in the future, it won't be possible to tell what railroad a locomotive belongs to by hearing it blow it's horn? I feel that the different horns were part of what made railroads unique from one another. I do like the sound of K5LA's though, especially the ones on CSX's AC44CWs. The K5LAs on NS's C40-9Ws don't seem to be as high-pitched.

RE: H3 GEVO: YUK!

If I had to choose my favorite horn, it would be NS's old P5. The last time I heard one was on a C39-8 last summer.

RE: H3 GEVO: YUK!

I love BNSF's paint scheme, simply because they actually spend some money on it, and it's not just one color. (Like NS Black, UP Yellow, CSX Blue, KCS Grey)

>railroad a locomotive belongs to by hearing it blow it's
>horn? No...BNSF are having the K5H's on thier GEVO's.
UP = K5LA's on thier SD70ACe's
UP = P3's on thier ES44AC's
NS = K5LA on thier ES40DC's
CSX will be getting K5LA's on the 100 new ES44AC's soon to arrive.
KCS are having K5LA's just like thier AC44's
Rumour has it...MRL are getting K3LA's on the ACe's
BHP will be getting P5's on the 13 ACe's on tap.>Mike Forster<
