This is probably old news to some, but maybe some N&W fans (and others) haven't seen it yet. I just received a copy of a relatively new book on the Class J. The title is: "Norfolk and Western Class J The Finest Steam Passenger Locomotive" and is by Kenneth L. Miller. It's hardback, contains about 134 pages and has about 200 photographs. Most of the photos are in black and white, but some are color. Many of the photos are familiar, but there are many which haven't been published before. One of the photos shows an unstreamlined J1 double-heading a troop train in 1944. This is the first photo I've seen to date of a J1 that is not a builder's photo and that shows the right side of the loco. There are several photos of wrecks involving J's including the fatal wreck in January, 1956 of #611 along the Tug river in Cedar, WV. The engineer was killed when the #611 jumped the tracks on a curve and landed upside down and nearly in the river. The text is outstanding also, giving a lot on background on the constructon and operation of the J's and on the N & W in general. This is a great book for N & W fans or anyone who loves steam railroading. If anyone is interested, I got my copy from Karen's Books.<http://www.karensbooks.com/>With shipping, it was $30 and change. And Karen ships fast. I'm sure there are numerous other sources for the book also.Mike Adams
