Hi Am new to site and needed to ask a question about train-sim. My son is four and loves trains. He is getting better at using the key board and plays games on it but do you think this would be above his ability? I want to get him more train stuff for the computer but not sure what he would enjoy and what would be age appropriate.
There is a thing called simple controls, located in the options area when you start up Train Sim. Using Simple Controls, all he needs to do is press "D" to throttle up, "A" to throttle down, and the space bar for the horn. "A" also are the brakes in simple control mode, while "B" is the bell. That is pretty much it. Pretty simple.I should also add that there are a few camera views as well, with "1" being the default in cab view, "2" being outside of the cab, and "3' puts you at the rear of the train, looking forward.Chris Bogley Syracuse New York http://photobucket.com/albums/v520/CBP/
I have 4 grandsons, one of whom is still too young to even think of trying Train Simulator. The second of the set is 6 and often does run the simulator - and I haven't even thought of trying Simple Controls for him. One thing I do have some problem with is getting him too appreciate the difference between selecting a route and choosing a train - if he selects the Settle-Carlisle he gets a nice steamer, while if he chooses the Austrian route he gets a different steamer, the other of the default routes give him a diffent electric trains or a diesel - what he sees is the train which is displayed with the route selection, but this conceptual dificulty is easing.Good luck, enjoy yourself and be patient with the children.CheersJohn
