Hi everyone-I was wondering where some locomotive scrap yards or storage facilities might be. Im with the IRM and looking at saving equipment etc. I know the Pielet Bros (or something like that) in McCook IL has been closed for awhile, but are there any others in the chicago or midwest general area? Thanks for any help,Kevin V.

Guys, we are looking for a place where the owners could possibly DONATE a piece of equipment, preferably a locomotive, to the Illinois Railway Musuem.

There are lots of stored locomotives in the deadline down in Phillipsburg Kansas. I haven't seen it in a year or so, but it was full of interesting stuff last time I saw it.

In Snoqualmie, WA there is a "boneyard" with dozens of rusting Heislers and Shays. I wish I had got some pictures. They are along side the road just a short distance from the Snoqualmie Railroad Museum. If you talked to the right people, you could probably get one or two of them for just the cost of transporting them. However, they may be too far gone to restore. Snoqualmie is about 40-50 miles Southeast of Seattle. If I get up there again, I will get some pictures.Cal Rasmussen

Guys, I don't know if this is too modern for the museum, but American Railroad Equipment in Roanoke Va is scrapping a portion of the NS C39-8 fleet. The units are comming intact to the shops, then being cut up./I had the bad luck of watching an employee with a torch cutting up one of them. ARE is where I bought my Nathan P5R24 from, I know they are cutting the engines up for parts, then melting the remaining metals, but I'm sure something could be worked out for an engine, what with NS scrapping all their C39-8s.They recently finished cutting up a number of Union Pacific SD40-2s...
Contact me at GP30RDMT@Comcast.net if you all are interested, I wont bother with a link if a C39-8 has no place at the IRM :0-Jeffrey

RE: Locomotive Scrap Yards

Folks,Cal's "information" is very incorrect. All equipment is owned by the Northwest Railway Museum and is NOT FOR SALE. And there is no way any equipment would ever be given away at no cost, it's not even legal to do something like that. All equipment currently stored will be restored. Nothing in our collection is "too far gone to restore".Once again this is an case of railfans, spreading rumors and not bothering to look for any true or correct information. All information on the Northwest Railway Museum can be found online, including news on museum projects, restorations and operations at the museum. If you know you have information that is not correct, don't even bother saying it.Dan
