CBS Show Numb3rs – image 1

I just saw the commercial a couple minutes ago about a Train vs. Bus incident on the CBS show Numb3rs Friday Night at 10:00 Eastern. I've never really seen the show so I supose I might tune in on Friday if I don't have anything better to do (American Hot Rod is on at that time too )Anyways, I just thought I'd let you all know

Having watched it, they took an accident that was very close to reality (remember the accident at the bottom of Cajon pass back in the late 1980s that then caused a big pipeline explosion a few weeks later? There was recently a National Geographic "Seconds from Disaster" episode devoted to it), and twisted it a little bit.In the real accident, UP maintenance was indeed identified by the NTSB to be the cause of the train running away because the engineers had not been told by the helper driver that some of the dynamic brakes were not working and the declared weights of the cars were not accurate either. In the CBS one, they said that something in the brake system wasn't working and the employee that was causing the copycat accidents had been blamed for the accident because the railroad had falsified documents to coverup maintenance mis-deeds. The engineer jumped from the train and was thought to have died in the accident and subsequent fire, but he was carrying out vengance on the railroads by causing these accidents years later. The engineer was finally caught while trying to kill himself and blow up a bunch of HAZMAT tanks at the top of the pass (don't remember which yard, sorry).Anyways, there was nothing in it bad about the railroads now, but it does echo proven maintenance deficiencies and communication problems that existed in the not-so-distant past of the railroads.

RE: CBS Show Numb3rs

I watched the first 20 minutes of the show before I felt the need to vomit.
What a concept!!
Lets see, we need to steal some TV's and appliences so we'll drive all over the country and stage train accidents so we can break into the loaded cars and steal stuff. The writers of this show must be smoking something funny.
Commercial TV is such a wasteland.

I guess if you watched more than 20 mins of it you would have known that was a side story to the main plot which was laid out a couple posts up.

I have mixed feelings about the show...I feel the side 'love-story' was really weak...And they really didn't research some of the stuff much. When they are comparing derailments at the beginning, they show a photo of the UP accident where UP dumped a SD70ACe demo into the Colorado river.
The photo they show is this one: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=67270
I wonder if Tyler Eaton was asked for permission.
They claim the accident occured in Seattle, Washington, and the train was carrying Plasma T.V's even thought it is obvioslsy a coal train. They also say that eight people were killed and the cause was sabatoge. Also, at the end, the nuclear waste is being held in regular black tankers...I don't know, it's a good concept for a show, but too much stuff is changed from the real world just to work in a tv show.
