LAST EDITED ON Feb-17-02 AT 12:14 PM (EST)Not sure what the deal is here, although I seem recall reading somewhere (WPRR website perhaps) that WPRR took over part of SP's operation. I enlarged and enhanced the photo with Paintshop Pro 7 and that is definitely SP4449, one of the most spectacular locomotives I have ever seen.I had an opportunity to see this locomotive in Sacramento about fifteen years (give or take) when the Sacramento Railoroad Museum opened. 4449 was there as well as several other large steam locos. I have some excellent photos of these locos. If I can find them I will post them. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-17-02, 12:52 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Ummm, someone care to enlighten me on this?" I got extremely lucky and knew a engineer that gave me tickets to ride on the SP4449 EAS trip in Seattle. Best railtrip of my life. I have to thank Gus Melonas (BNSF Regional Director) for letting me bring a couple friends, and giving me a tour of the entire BNSF consist for 2 more trips.Brian E. Feb-17-02, 04:12 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Ummm, someone care to enlighten me on this?" Not sure of dates here, but it was in the 90's, when SP sold it's Branchlines down the Willamette Valley in Oregon, to the Willamette and Pacific and also the Portland and Western Rys. The opposite side of 4449's tender had the Portland and Western name emblazoned thereon. It was solely a promotional operation for the opening of these two lines that the Tender was lettered thus. It was changed back to Southern Pacific after the trips over the lines were done. Pentrex has a Vid of the trip.Hope this sheds some light on your questionTim Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
