Feb-14-02, 01:51 PM (EST) "More Trivia from Starlight's Padded Cell." Ok, decided on these while taking a shower of all things; Just a few points of Trivia which I know the answer to...but think it'll be fun just to see if anyone else does.1. What is the longest train on record? (any where in the world) And just HOW long are they. *Hint...it's a south african train*2. What would happen in this case: Two locomotives are attached to a train. One 25 ton critter, and one Dash nine. (ten cars at 70 tons each) The Dash nine gets the train up to speed (60 mph) and then idles out. Running flat out would the critter:
A. Slow eventually and come to a stop?
B. Stop Suddenly?
C. Be able to maintain the speed?
D. None of the above.3. What guage is the Toronto Subway system built to?
4. Finally: When was the last steam engine used in an industrial service? And do they still continue working? Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Certainly there was an industrial fireless steam loco in service in the UK during the '90s. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-14-02, 03:08 PM (EST) 2. "RE: More Trivia from Starlight's Padded Cell." another question people might like to have a think about, when did British Rail run its last steam locomotive in full revenue service, and on which line? Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-14-02, 05:22 PM (EST) 6. "RE: More Trivia from Starlight's Padded Cell." #2, I'd say the train could stay at the same speed, since it already moving the mottem should be enough to keep it staying at the same speed, BUT this would have to be on level, PERFECT track.Greg Marck

Feb-14-02, 08:10 PM (EST) 7. "RE: More Trivia from Starlight's Padded Cell." *grins* the train I'm thinking of in South Africa is so long that contained in a box under the locomotive is a motorcycle. If something goes wrong back in the train and the engineer (no brakemen or anything) has to check; he stops, unhooks the bike and takes off up to 3 miles down the line.biggun. >the WCML. While that may have been a formerly british railways locomotive, it was not run by british rail, and is not in full revenue service. On a technicality, there has not been a train run by British Rail since the mid '90s. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
