GE Evolution Series poster in Feb. 05 TRAINS – image 1

LAST EDITED ON Jan-01-05 AT 09:59 AM (EST)

I got this issue yesterday in the mail and noticed that GE has made a "full" color poster for the GEVOs. Did anyone get the issue?

RE: GE Evolution Series poster in Feb. 05 TRAINS

I got the poster, very ell done. General Electric is advertising in a total railfan publication where there is almost NO market for them. Where's GM?Maybe GE cares more about their business.

General Motors and EMD most likely has a better what to show off there nice SD70ACe. GE most likely wants to show it off to... normal people. either way. I think EMD should be number 1. and GE needs to stay with Lightbulbs and Refrigeraters.
Haha JUST KIDDING. both engines look nice.. But what would a GE model have those 2 little fans?

GE just needs to start building quality locomotives like EMD does...and everyone wonder why GE sells more locos...its cus theyre cheaper. the sides and doors are thin metal, the paint is cheap...EMD just builds better engines.Kevin V.

Actually, EMD's locos have been cheaper for a couple of years now. GE offers better financing though, as I understand it.DanEveryone is entitled to their opinion no matter how wrong it is.

I read that the 70M's were a lot more expencive than the C44's in their hayday (as in 97/98).

In their "heyday" yes. However EMD dropped their pricing a lot several years ago to compete with GE. Hasn't seemed to have won them too many orders (yet).DanEveryone is entitled to their opinion no matter how wrong it is.

UP bought a bunch of SD70UGLes, but also a bunch of GEVOs, so it's helping both EMD and GE. BNSF and NS seem to like the GEVOs, while CSX has the ACes. Hopefully EMD will go out of business soon, but if they start producing SD40-2s again, that would be OK too.Joe LeMay

>that would be OK too. Hopefully EMD goes out of business ? What are you talking about, EMD won't go out of business, as a EMD fan and a big fan of the SD40-2, I don't want to see garbage from GE plying the line for the future years to come, besides GE junk doesn't even last 18 years or in CP's case 13 years, then there in the scrap yard, look at the C30-7, it was to compete with EMD's SD40-2 look who survived the longest, the SD40-2 and there is alot of things why it done so well on the class 1's railways and that GE can't beat and that is EMD quality. So what if EMD is producing a crappy locomotive I don't care if its crappy or not, beautiful or ugly its a goddamn EMD, if they started producing the SD40-2's again then heck let the AC4400's fall like toothpicks on the ground, they don't even last long, ask any railroader and they will tell you that the AC4400's fail most of the time on a hill or other places.

If that makes them junk, then I guess they are grade A junk! -Mike

There is no denying that A4400CWs are pure business when it comes to heavy trains at slow speeds.... they are really all CSX uses through here on their coal trains... (although I've been lucky to catch GP40-2s leading before)...I think the A4400CW is the best unit GE has made.... almost everybody has a fleet (NS seems to be slow on the AC traction development).../../..it's surprising how much of what counts is dependent on tractive effort and adhesion...-Jeffrey

Jeff I think your right (Keep in mind that I --HATE-- all GE's). Those CW44AC's make me wonder how they used to do it way back when with the GP38's and 40-2's, etc.On the other hand, ask the engineers which they would rather have on the point, an SD40-2, or a CW44AC. I bet that the first one wins out by a landslide.

Coming from personal experience...the GE's have the better ride and are ALOT more quiet than the EMD's. BNSF runs the holy hell out of their GE's. the SD70's are kept on the coal trains and the GE's run everything elseKyle Penn
