You know you're a railfan/model railroad if – image 1

LAST EDITED ON Dec-27-04 AT 10:41 AM (EST)

Here are some I made up.You know you're a model railroad if...You compare prototype locomotives to model locomotives, complaining that the prototype unrealistically has features that the model doesn't have. You paint all the walls in your house sky blue and white in case you're layout expands. You see a commercial advertising a basement finishing system and you wonder where the layout is on the commercial (Guilty)You paint the outside of your house with Floquil paint. You're basement is bigger than your entire house. If doesn't take a tornado warning to get you to your basement for a whole day.You use track warrants, waybills, and scaled down money. You have a layout featuring every scale ever made.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
You know you're a railfan if...When your wife runs out to buy groceries at the grocery store by the tracks , you ask her to take down engine numbers on any train she sees. You couldn't fit a turkey in your freezer for thanksgiving because it was full of Kodachrome. You write track warrants (or FORM D's for northeasterners) when there is a detour on the road. You get up at 3 in the morning, leave the house to a place by the tracks, and stay there till 10 at night. You never go ANYWHERE without your camera, just in case you see a train.Your email address is a railroad, locomotive number, or a type of locomotive. (Guilty!)Your ceiling fan is a radiator fan from an SD40-2, and the lights are gyralights from an SP SD45.You have 150 railroad videos and DVD's (Guilty)Your car is cab signal equipped, is painted blue, numbered 6707, and has a hugh yellow ribbon on the side of it.Your other car is a/an (insert your favorite locomotive here, in my case, a GP60)
---------------------------------------------------------------------Feel free to add more Edit: spelling's terrible today.

RE: You know you're a railfan/model railroad if...

"You compare prototype locomotives to model locomotives, complaining that the prototype unrealistically has features that the model doesn't have"
for some of the people on here its just the oppisite... they really know how to bitch and nit pick things that in the end have no real effect on the hobby.
and"If doesn't take a tornado warning to get you to your basement for a whole day."this is me with my HO scale RR, and my other models lol but its more of a snow or hurricane warning cause here on LI, we dont get tornados.

You might be a Railfan if you are driving (or a passenger) down the road beside some RR Tracks and you spend more time watching the tracks than the road(guilty) You might be a model railroader if you continually correct people on the two terms "switch" and "turnout" On your christmas list atleast one item starts with SD...Morgan

> You might be a Railfan if you are driving (or a passenger)
>down the road beside some RR Tracks and you spend more time
>watching the tracks than the road(guilty)
>Ditto,This is why were called foamers/chasers. Here what I mean quoted from http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID1/9505.html>The Foamer - Foamers...Railfans at their worst. These are the guys >that give railfans a bad name. Arrogant in the worst way, these >railfans somehow think they are entitled to watch trains in any way >they please. They often will do stupid and dangerous things just to >get good photographs, have little respect for other railfans, and >for the railroad for that matter. I hope none of us fit this >category.
>
>The Chaser - The Chaser finds a train and then follows it along the >line. These railfans prefer not to wait for the action, but will >simply make sure they are always near a train
>These 2 meanings is what driving down the road looking a the tracks more than looking ahead means. Its not exactly safe so it could give us a badname such as "insert your favorite bad driver swear name here". However while were going down the road look at the track also means that were kinda chasing a train or not.

YOu complan at Hollywood's lame attemps of recreating some railroad scene. (You should have seen me watching Atomic Train. "They never had M420W's in Denver!" A link to some great stuff: http://rr-fallenflags.org/railfan.html
And why you would rather be a railfan than a deer hunter: http://rr-fallenflags.org/top10.htmlLater

>You might be a railfan if you pass 2 people franticly to be
>first in line at a railroad crossing for an oncomming train. and you actually slow down coming up towards crossings in the offchance that a train might come by (unlike most people who speed up), and slam the brakes on if the lights start to flash just before you get to the crossing (unlike most people who slam their foot on the accelerator).
