RE: When did CP get these?

GrandTrunkFan what you probably saw was 159, did that train have any limestone slurry cars at the front? if so then thats 153 and it runs with limestone slurry cars at the front of the train and runs Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday and now the usual power for 158/159 and 152/153 is now SOO Line SD60's. That train may sometimes get the occasional AC4400's or SD40-2's but thats now once in a bluemoon to catch an SD40-2 on that train now.Mike

Nope, it was solid intermodel. And it was about 90% Canadian Pacific well cars and the rest were TTX. And were lead by Soo SD60's 6040 and 6004. For a CSX line there sure are a lot of Canadian Pacific equmpment using that line.

>ok i've seen tons of thouse rail cars but i ever unterstand
>the 53 and 48 number. It's simple, the answer to your own question is in the first post, notice the part where he writes "53' Canadian Pacific well cars", as in they are 53 feet long.

The number on the side refers to how long the containers can be.
A well car with 53' written on the side, can hold a 53' container in the lower level. A well car with 48' on the side can only hold a 48' container on the lower level, but could hold a larger on on top, etc.

Some are coming now, however they are ribbed 53' NSC superstack. On the CPR, it is 100% container (exept a small TOFC train). Up here on the Trans Con most of the intermodal cars are single unit well cars at 53' and 40' length. CP has its own fleet of of flatcars (handling smaller containers) that we often see.

RE: When did CP get these?

"On the CPR, it is 100% container (exept a small TOFC train)."Hi Chris, I don't know about Marathon - you would obviously be much better informed about that location than I am - but down here in Whitby, where we a very close to the GM plant in Oshawa, I see a lot of Autorack trains on the CP track, as well as contianer and manifest freights, and also some specialty trains. Of the latter, I quite often see flat-cars loaded with automobile chasis arriving at the the GM Plant. They come from the west, pass the first (west facing)turnout for the Oshawa yard, and then run just past the second one (east facing turnout) to back the train down the track to the yard..Definately a variety of trafic on this part of CP. I think the oddest load I've seen was a bridge span being moved from the siding at the top of the wye leading to Oshawa yard being moved west a short distance to be placed across Thickson Road - that was last summer, you may remember my photographs which I posted in this forum.Cheers, and have a happy new year, everyoneJohn
