Lets Play Race The Trains – image 1

LAST EDITED ON Dec-18-04 AT 10:52 AM (EST)

Aboard the ALDTR with a raggedy CN 5260, here we are on the other side of Gurdon AR racing the LWS54. Those were some of my buddies off to the left to we acted a bit crazy. We eventually got the green to go and I gave them the freindly "one finger" salute. But it came back on me in the second photo as you can see. They got into the yard before we did and I got the same "treatment" as stated above. In the third photo you can see the LWS 54 coming into the yard (far left), then the UPS jet with the ex BNSF SD40-2, and then two coal trains. But theres one more surprise as we creeped up, we ran into the third coal train right in front of us. It took us a total of 2 hours to go three 1/2 miles. Oh what a day. That CN 5260 had a hell of a heater too. I also learned not to walk back to the second engine while doing 55mph and its 12 degrees outside

RE: Lets Play Race The Trains

That reminds me of when I chased a train going 67 mph for 100 miles! And once at a junction there were two trains going the same speed on double track. One was CP and the other was a BNSF. They went parallel for a long time but then the CP started going faster. It was actually a 3 way meet because on the other side of the triangle-shaped junction another CP train was going into a different yard.

What's going on in the last shot. Looks like two trains got switched onto the same track going headon not good.

Riding on Supertrain.

RE: Lets Play Race The Trains

Cool!On a similar note of racing trains, there is a long portion of the Quebec - Montreal highway that runs beside the CN mainline, and I've been told that police officers will often base their speed traps on the VIA schedules as the trains move quite fast through the area (90MPH?) and dummies on the highway will try to pace the train!Lets Play Race The Trains – image 11Dave Reage - Beta Tester
