I live here, and I don;t even know why they are here, but alas, 3 doubledecker Metra commuter cars are sitting on a siding along the CSX mainline in front of the mall. The cars have a orange stripe along the top window line, and a brown stripe along the lower window line. Onyl one car had the Metra logo, the other two had them painted over. Anyone have any details?Chris Bogley Syracuse New York http://photobucket.com/albums/v520/CBP/

I think the idea of them being refurbished is more likely. The little commuter train they run around here for the university students is struggling to say the least, now cut back to only running Friday-Sunday, and I am not even sure the Metra cars could even fit under some of the low clearences along the old NYSW route that the ONTrack system uses. Sure was odd though eating my lunch at the food court and looking out to see these huge Metra cars sitting there.Chris Bogley Syracuse New York http://photobucket.com/albums/v520/CBP/

I haven't heard about that. Stainless steel on old Pullmans? Anyway, these cars have been ending up in many weird places, I've heard Canada and Mexico and other states where they are being reused or scrapped. I've seen the retired cars parked on sidings waiting to be moved. Really oddly, I saw one just sitting in a field on a short track, about a mile from any railroad. I have no idea how they moved such a big car like that, or what it's doing there.
