I was wondering if you fellow members had any favorites for HO Models from the major model makers; I myself would like an E-44 electric, AlP-46, HHP-8 and an E-60. Hopefully Atlas, Bachmann or such may see a market for these locos.

RE: HO Models

It is not a locomotive but the Intermountain cars defy what my expectations of detail were. One thing I have noticed about locomotives is that there are not many CN mainline locomotives. I have seen a GP-38 and a GP-40 and the Athearn Genesis SD-75I that I was told was not availible now, and thats about it.

Well....The newer Atlas stuff, starting with their GP40 back in '99....really super stuff....gets better and better.Life Like Proto 2000 and their Heritage steam collection are cool stuff...I have two of their 2-8-4 Berks., and they (I think( the best plastic HO scale steam to be done.I have two cabooses from Overland (brass) and they are by far the best peices of rolling stock I have,,, I have a few nice kits from companys like Branchline...Intermountain is ok, but they use a "modelers licsense" quite a bit....they don't always use accurate road numbers on cars, and sometimes the paint can be an issue.
Athearn Genesis cars are very nice.....but don't count on that kind of accuracy from their R-T-R line..........several of their Chessie RR cars and others too have no prototypes.I've heard really good things on the Red Caboose stuff, like their new coil car.....if they make a Chessie run, I'm screwed. lol.
...Atlas' cars are like their engines....just outstanding. The new corn syrup cars are out of this world!! I think the ACF Percision door boxcars they did were great, nicely done.
LLP2K freight cars are very good, and are cheap at that.Although they require some skill to build, they kits are awesome when finished.
I might add to this once something enters my head,..kindain a rush Take care,-Jeffrey

RE: HO Models

The only E44 that was done was in brass, Ibelieve it was Alco Models doing the importing.E60...one was made by American GK Loco Works, which was taken over by Walthers. I had one...it wasn't too bad, had an Athearn U-xxC drive in it, so for its time, ran pretty well.Bachmann also made an E60 but, in true Bachmann fashion on their older models it was not too high in quality. Bachmann has announced an HHP-8 in Hos cale, should be out after the first of the year.

An ALP-46 would actually be easy to do, as it is based (or maybe more correctly, modified) on the German Class 101 electric locomotive. I can't remember who makes one, but I don't believe it's Marklin.DanEveryone is entitled to their opinion no matter how wrong it is.

BLI's SD40-2's are getting pretty well blasted in every forum I visit.. Comparing details to the GSB and Bachmann SD40-2's from years past. From pics I've seen, and comparing the pics, the criticism is pretty accurate. Now BLI released pics of a BN 40-2 with GREEN walkway/underframe/pilot/plow. and say they have pictures showing this.

RE: HO Models

But if you look on their website you'll see it says they are not the final product so Id bet theyre gonna be changed. I have an ABBA set of ATSF E6s and man they are nice, esp at the front of my Walthers Super Chief trainset!
Even if BLI released the BN engines like in those photos, airbrushing the walkway, plow, and pilots black wouldnt be too difficult to do.Kevin V.

RE: HO Models

"BLI's SD40-2's are getting pretty well blasted in every forum I visit"funny how their release has been delayed 2 times already because of the "feedback" that has been given(i work ar a hobby store, plus i have been on the phone with them a few times)I have the first run of their hudson and first run of the GG1 in five stripe green and they have no problems, either scalle wise or mechanical..also is this the E-44 you want> its a overland Brass model, but there was a few other ones in the early 70's and 80s as well.Overland made the best (IMHO) and most variety, in terms of road numbers, and details.. like this being the -78 with the new E Unit nose and grille on the side you dont see on the others..

Phil I think you meant EF-4. E-44 was a northeastern electric. E78 didn't get EMD noses, just EMD cabs and grilles. the noses looked like a regular joe.

NO i mean E-44...the GE Designation for the EF-4 was the E-44... believe it or not. Milwaukee put the EF-4 name on 'emand the Joe got a new leading nose, cause of damage recieved during a wreck on a rock slide..so all the information i have read and heard says.

>Phil I think you meant EF-4. E-44 was a northeastern
>electric. Hey, for those whohave never gotten out of their one-horse towns out west, the EF-4 is also a northeastern electric. None other than New Haven 300-310...those rectifiers they got from N&W, that were originally Virginian.
