Yes, but so doesnt BNSF, CSXT, and UP that go into Bow N.H. so its tricky. but I have a hard time choosing between NS, and BNSF, cuase the keep the tracks PERFECTLY done on there routes.

I definitely think NS would buy Guilford. All four railroads have been suppling Bow with coal, but because BNSF and UP aren't even 1,000 miles from Guilford, they would never purchase Guilford (at least until they each take over the two eastern railroads). One more thing- There's always CN...

You are right there. None of the other roads have a connection in place. The NS has poised itself rather nicely to suck up both the D&H (which the CP seems glady to give away) and Guilford if they can pry it away from Melons fingers. It won't be easy though. Most of the line is in pretty rough shape and would need rebuilding from basically the ground up (I doubt much that NS likes running trains at 10 mph). And they've managed to scare away a lot of the on line customers they should have or could have had through the years.-Mike
>Guilford seems to be updateing the tracks. BUT the reason >why we do 10 mph is becuase buildings are to close to the >tracks. ROFLMAO!!! Thank You. That is hands down the funniest thing I've heard this year!!!!!...buildings too close.... you're killing me!!-Mike

RE: NS All the way!
Hey, at the auto shop my dad owns, there used to be a siding on the former NH Berkshire Line that went so close to the back of the building that they would have to close the windows there or else the boxcars would take them right off the building. -Dave

If their tracks not good, their engines are worse. I've seen photos of Guilford EMD's on fire, not once but twice. Also, NS is leasing a bunch in Guilford engines and running them on the locals on of Allentown Yard, and the crews hate them.

Yeah I think they have to pay back horsepower-hours so they send them down. Its too bad, the MEC 381 is one of the "better" engines they have but it usually is the one to go to NS. (it did come back with a 3rd seat though). The old CN GP40-2LW's are pretty decent but everything else is just tired. The shop forces do a pretty good job just keeping them running I think.-Mike

The 381 is one of several ex-Conrail GP40's on GTI, and all the high hoods are ex-N&W GP40's. Here's a shot I took of the Guilford GP40's when they first showed up on NS, over two years ago (sorry for the quality, I was still using prints when I took this). NS has assigned the 380 and the 381 to all the locals radiating out of Allentown, PA, and a couple times I saw another high hood (I think it was the 370) in Allentown.

Yea Guilford Managment is pretty poor. I can excuatly see why they stopped running 6 axles engines. but all in all.. i have seen a CSX Engine up in Rumford. a GP40 i belive... that was 2 years ago. and i have seen a NS GP40 on the main line.

>The 381 is one of several ex-Conrail GP40's on GTIThe 381 is actually the only odd ball of the bunch. It came from Helm and is a former CSX unit ( Seaboard originally I think ). It is the only one of the bunch with a nose mounted headlight.-Mike
Ah...that's where the low headlight came from, I should have thought about that. BTW if you notice in the pic I posted before the engine on the left (380) bears a faded NS logo.

Yeah, some of the ex-NS GP40's were never painted grey at first. They made a make shift cover up of the NS markings, put the stripes and letting on and pushed them into service, black & orange.-Mike
Anything but NS, purely for the fact that NS gets on my nerves - other railways exist, people! *rolls eyes*"The F59PHI and Genesis are the lamest excuses for locomotives Amtrak has ever operated - accept it and move on. Hug an F40 before it's too late!""To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." - Theodore Roosevelt"Ahhh, a mother/daughter bonding over gay porn at lunch - the visions of my youth." -That girl I like too much for my own good
ouch. #381 is a pretty kewl looking locomotive, specially seems it has the nose headlights. MOST of the GP40's Guilford Bought, where ex NS. Both high hoods and low hoods. I belive Guilford replaced the horns on most of them to.

Wait a sec
Hey! What about CP? They already run 2 trains a day over Guilford (MOPO and POMO). Maybe they would want it.But then again, they are trying to sell the D&H, so I don't think its totally reasonable for them. -Dave

if CP buys Guilford. then they will have to buy back all the trackage they sold off to NBSR(New Brunswick Southern Railway) I belive. and then will need to Buy the Eastern Maine, BAR and SLR...im pretty sure CP does not want to run Canadian Named Engines in the US. specially New England.. There was a reason they sold the trackage in New Brunswick to NBSREdit: typos, and NBSL didnt look right.

Booyah!!!!SP will rise from the dead and purchase them!!!!!! >Mike Forster< Perth, Western AustraliaMike.Forster.2005@gmail.com http://www.trainweb.org/aussiepix
Get rid of the crappy SD70M's and have SD45-2T's and SD45R's!! >Mike Forster< Perth, Western AustraliaMike.Forster.2005@gmail.com http://www.trainweb.org/aussiepix
NS is probably the most likely to happen. Seems like the rumors get going all the time about an NS purchase. I don't really know why you guys are saying that Guilford has poor track. Oh wait yeah I do. Actually I live in ST District 2. Guilford does a wonderful job around here. Of course that is only because they manipulated the system and got a crap load of cash from the federal gov to upgrade the mainline. That's all thank's to the Downeaster. They have been trying for more money by saying that the tracks are still unsafe for high speed passenger service but lost several appeals to the surface transportation board. I would still rather have guilford than some class 1. We got a great power lineup around here. It's great to see a mixed freight with an sd26 leading a gp9, and a gp40-2w instead of some boring dash 9's.
No, you're right. Out that way the speeds are pretty decent with Amtrak and the MBTA or whatever its called now. Out here in District 4 though its tough. Its getting harder and harder to get these trains over the road. Makes for a long day.-Mike
hmmm. could be becuase Guilford is hauling more frieght... and not the speeds or whatever. tell me... how the hell can 1 GP40 and 2 GP40-2LW's pull 72 cars from Portland to Rileys?

Sorry about the late post but consider this. If you look on some of the NS engines you might see a stenciled marking stating the bank who is leasing/financing that particular engine. I believe its' "Mellon Bank". Now ask yourself "Who owns GTI?" more or less. Now ask yourself "Where is the apple to the tree?"Just a thought Dwight
If its going to be any Railroad buying out Guilford its going to be Norfolk Southern. Im hearing Guilford is going to be putting in welded rail from Eagle Bridge, NY to East Deerfield, MA. Also NS and P&W are the only RR's that deliver Coal to Bow. BNSF and UP are just run through Power that occasionally go up there. Mt. Tom coal plant on the GRS Conn River Line has been getting there coal from UP lately out in Somerset, CO. Ryan
