Windows SP2 Question – image 1

I thought this was supposed to help not hurt. I got it installed last night and that didnt help performance. I've experoenced a got damn 60-70% slowdown in my cpu's performance in everything. WTF is going on. I've been up trying to deal with this problem and now I am pissed. I am about to go back to a restore point before I installed this crap. Has anyone else experienced this??? The screen locked up one time and I hit the ctrl+alt+delete and it said it was doing 8o processes and cpu usage was at 100% I do not know where all these processes are coming from. What to do what to do. I already have my 380 aimed at this cpu.
P.S. In case you didnt know, I dont have much patience when it comes to this

RE: Windows SP2 Question

Hi ssw_96. I am having the same problem after putting on sp2. Route riter will not check out a route, works ok for checking acts but not the route. I cannot reinstall switch list generator it says not enough hard drive and disappears off the desk top.If I have a problem in ms instead of calling home the monitor goes black and I have to go to the task manager to shut down and restart. Lots of small troubles to go along with it. I have two towers. One with just xp home Not hooked up to the internet and one that I am writing this message on that has ps2 installed. Wish I had never put it on. I don't try to fix anything that has to do with the workings of the computer, my son usually does that as he is a tech.Greg

RE: Windows SP2 Question

Nor have I....SP2 just works! That's a fact....
Every problem that I have investigated has revolved around pre-existing problems or applications that don't play well in a locked down environment... Usually it has been a plague of Add-ware or Spy-ware the user was not aware of that precipitates the problems....
You install SP2 and bring the system back up and they try to phone home and can't and destabilize the system as a consequence....
The most common solution is to "de-louse" the system prior to upgrading....
And/Or save your personal files/preferences and install clean instead of upgrading....Chuck Schneider

RE: Windows SP2 Question

Nor have I ....Usually this is the kind of thread I would jump into earlier, but I see the same recurring themes keep surfacing and no longer see the point in trying to help.Users blaming SP2 because their systems weren't clean and stable before loading the update. Then they wonder why nothing is working right after the update and blame SP2 instead of looking for the real problems. Garbage in, Garbage out.Running SP2 I've seen increased speed, and reliability across the board.Windows SP2 Question – image 10

RE: Windows SP2 Question

I haven't had any problems with it, but I have not played the Train Simulator in 6 months due to work and family. But I have not tried it yet. Last time I played Train Sim on SP2 I was testing out the SD60F and it seemed to work fine.

Thats the typical got damn response I expected from one of the "know it all's" on this board. I do fully blame sp2 because things wasnt screwed before I installed it. And FYI I run ad aware se once a day and I ran it prior to installing. I should have just left it alone.
This is the fifth time i've tried to post. Things have just gotten too slow on this cpu. Tried system restore but it wont let me do it. It will say restoration cannot be made to point. Technology can be a pain in the ass.

>Thats the typical got damn response I expected from one of
>the "know it all's" on this board. And that's exactly the kind of response I expect from someone who doesn't know what he's doing but lashes out at the people who do; after asking for their help. This is precisely why I don't like helping with these kinds of posts anymore, it's not worth the hassle to help the unappreciative when I'm normally paid for my support. There are plenty of subjects that I don't know at all, computers just isn't one of them. Having knowledge and experience doesn't make me a "know it all", but I accept your acknowledgment of my knowledge on this subject. Have a nice day, someone else may choose to help you.Windows SP2 Question – image 14

Chad,If you want to be helped at least meet us half way!
First question: Did you do as I suggested and go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875350 ? They suggest 4 methods of removal.Second question: did you go to to the Add/remove in control panel and remove SP2 from there?Third question: can you confirm that you have an up-to-date anti-virus
and Firewall?Fourth question: are you prepared to respond to these suggestions and questions?
