Hi all. I want to share with you a great rail fan hot spot to watch trains at.It is Lincoln Street Overpass/Peck park in Galesburg,Illinois. T here are 5 lines that go on this overpass. There are a double set of tracks on top, as well as a line that splits of going north, and a set of double tracks going under the overpass, meaning that there could be a train at any time coming by on any one of those tracks! B N S F is the most common power units on those lines but I have seen Nofolk southern, Southern Pacific, Union Pacific,C S X,Conrail,CN, and I have seen K C S as well. there have been more but these are the ones you are most likely to see on a regular basis. On a good day it is possible to see 150 trains in a 24 hour period. On October 12,2004 i saw 42 trains in 6 hours. This is a park located right in the east central part of town. Lodging, food, and shopping are all very close buy. Parking is also no problem as you can park right in the park. I have been aware of this hot spot since April 26,2003 and let me tell you this is a very worth while spot. I have only missed 18 Saturdays starting with April 26,2003 that i have not gone there to watch/camcord/log trains. There are several other places as well there in Galesburg to train watch, they also have a Amtrak station there in Galesburg as well, not to mention other places of intrest and good dining. Some times you have to be your own Disneyland and this place is my Disneyland, check it out. Mike Messenger. unionpacific856@hotmail.com
