I always thought that the Silver Streak was the best/most realisticYou get movies like Atomic Train where the second train hits the runaway at the top of a mountain and blows all the brakes out and the engineer isn't even using the dynamic brakes. That one got me rialed up.

Emperor of the North
Under Siege 2
Silver Streak(by far the most plausable runaway scenario from Hollywood)
and Runaway Train
Though it was but a tiny bit of the film the derail scene from The Fugitive was pretty darn good and the send up of that scene in Wrongfully Accused was darn funny.BTW the movie previously mentioned was Tough Guys not Tough EnoughGary S

I didn't see the older version of The Taking of Pelham One, Two, Three, but I did see the '97 version. IMO, it should be called "The Taking of the Bloor-Danforth Subway"

RE: Railroad Movies

An advanced keyword search for railroad at the Internet Movie Database (www.imdb.com) comes up with 160 hits. I doubt that all 160 are railroad movies, but many of the titles seem right.I recently saw a movie where the lead character is a railfan. It is called "The Station Agent." Some of you may like it; I did. You can read about it at www.imdb.com/title/tt0340377/.Larry

1. Runaway Train
2. Under Seige 2
3. Atomic TrainEven though Atomic Train could have been written better, and the situation could have been handled easily, insted of making it complicated, I liked it, especially those BCRail units in "Colorado". Why didnt they just uncouple the freight cars from the locos and let the helper locomotives to pick em up and let the runaway locos meet their fate. Oh, I forgot. There needed to be drama.

Silver Streak - wish they would release it on DVDDisaster on the Coastliner - two amtrak trains get put on a collision course by disgruntled employee Express to Terror pilot "Supertrain" who could forget that widetrack hilevel monster that got a bad rap because NBC didn't spend enough time in development. The scene of Supertrain racing out of Grand Central is forever burned into my mind.

I'd vote for Buster Keaton's "The General." There are several references above to "The Great Locomotive Chase." Is that a remake of "The General" or maybe the same movie released under a different name?

I hate to dig up an old post, but has anyone ever seen Free Money? Two deadbeats try to steal cash from a train taking old US currency from Canada back to the US. The guys take the truck of the guy their living with and place it on the railroad tracks to get the train to stop, but the engineer and conductor are playing cards in the back of the cab of the loco. The train hits the truck and the engineers think its a deer or a large animal. The truck explodes and the train stops. The guys take the money and live better. The guy they took the truck from, then takes out his revenge on the guys. While a train isnt the main focus, it has an important piece of the storyline. That poor Dodge Ram 3500 Dually that gets totaled. Damn
