RE: Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey

I'm not sure about how they'll do things in your area, but a year ago when the circus was in Omaha, the train arrived on the BNSF line, passed through the local yards and was routed onto a spur that runs adjacent to the auditorium where they performed. There were also several semis with the B&B logos that arrived shortly after the train was spotted on the spur. Once all the stage equipment, and of course animals, were unloaded, the train backed into the yards and then was routed back on to the main line and went west about 4 miles where it was tied down on the #2 siding in South Omaha. The train remained there for the duration of the Circus's performance. Vans were used to shuttle circus personnel between the train and auditorium.
The train was especially impressive at night with lights on inside most cars, and outside marker and running lights on, and some spotlights mounted between the cars illuminating the train as it sat on the siding. At the end of the weekend, the circus train was moved back on to the mainline, and a BNSF locomotive tied on to the end of the train and pulled it backwards to the yards. From there the BNSF help was cut off and circus train returned to the auditorium where it was loaded, then repeated the backwards movement back into the yards, finally being routed back westbound on the main, this time continuing west and on to it's next destination.

RE: Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey

I was actually lucky enough to board their train one time about 10 years ago while they were in Atlanta. A friend of mines cousin played trombone in the band.
I'll tell ya'. They sure have small rooms, at least the band members do-I didn't get to see the circus stars digs.
His room was so small, he had to use a turntable (anyone remember them?) that folded up into the wall. If not, he couldn't have got to his bed.
I'd guess his room was about 8 X 4, if I remember right.Ed

They will coming to St. Louis Nov 17-21 and the train usually sits in the UP yard near Savis center. One year I was riding Metrolink to catch a bus and saw it sitting there. It was a lot longer then I expected. I think the UP will bring it in and take it out. Has Amtrak ever pulled the circus train?

Chicago Nov 16-28 London,Ont Nov 16-17 then moving to Hamilton, Ont Nov 19-21 I dont think one train can be in three places at the same time

As far as I know, Ringling Bros Barnum and Bailey Joint Circus only operates two trainsets in North America. One is designated the "Red Train" and the other is the "Blue Train". Each train supports a completely different show as far as performers and acts are concerned. While it is possible that they could have expanded to three trainsets, I imagine that would have been reported in all of the train-related media. I suspect that there is an error in one of the dates listed above. Most likely the error is in the dates shown for Chicago.Henry<edited for clarity>

Henry
I belive you're right on the Chicago date being in error as I saw some of the RBBX(apparently I just missed the circus parade) cars being unloaded on a rail spur near the Allstate Arena last Thursday just north of O'hare airport(for us Chicago guys, they apparently unload on the industrial spur that ends at the concrete batch plant on O'Hare's north side just north of the NW Tollway overpass)unless the later Chicago date is for an actual within Chicago city limits date(it has been done before)Gary S

RE: Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey

There's two trains, 3 different travelling shows. There's the red and blue trains that we all know about. The other one is a "hometown edition".. which I take to mean.. a show that goes around in trucks only, no trains.

The trains are the numbered editions.. 133, 134 and 135 (starting up in January). Scott Riley

Here's their web-site and schedule.http://www.ringling.com/I remember when this circus came to my town in the 50's. We lived in Southern Illinos on the IC Main-Line. The circus train was put on a siding and they held a circus parade out to the park. We watched the train unload for several days. But that was when railroads were king. We had the IC, Southern and Q (CB&Q) always passing through town.In those days, you farmed, worked in the oil-fields, railroaded or mined.
