It probably would have been better if they joined in with the other developers of the next train simulation (I forget the various names of them). But, to each his own. . .death. TA, now MLT. Us freeware folks will soon be the only ones left!

RE: MLT rides off into the sunset?

Chuck,It is sad, but they were trying to run a business after all. And while I don't remember the figures, I do recall that the failure rate for small businesses is very high across the board--from restaurants to gift shops to hobby stores. Everybody here loses in this case, not just them but all of us. Glad I have the Cascade Crossing as a memento, but...Ave atque Vale!Clayton,"Us freeware folks will soon be the only ones left!"I'm not sure that's all so bad. Better a labor of love than nothing. I'm sure we'll all stick with it until something vastly superior comes along. Then the kind of people who like antique cars and steam locomotives will continue fiddling with it until there is no longer a "Windows emulator" to run it!PaulSMLT rides off into the sunset? – image 6

Too bad, they produced some fine stuff...am fortunate enough to have purchased Sandpatch, Cascades Crossing, and the B&O Heritage Pack.....really wanted the "Bridge Line"...Maybe they will put their existing routes back up for purchase?..."Sandpatch" was available on CD through various distributers.(Hastings Video) It was marketed by Strategy First....

It sucks. Their SP packs and CC was arguably the best SP stuff around. Danny's obsession with detail and textures that knock your socks off! He's the only one I've seen to get SP weathering "right" Was looking forward to the UP pack soon, but I guess we'll be waiting more. Bradley Linda

That's a real shame. In my estimation MLT's products were the best in the buisness. Hopefully they will be back in another incarnation soon. There is too much talent involved not to make an impact on the hobby in some form or another. Thanks for everything, MLT. cheers,
Ernie

Note the following quote from the MLT website:"For the time being, the finished product will not be available for sale, pending an agreement between the founding members of the organization."This clearly means that they are working on a way to keep the existing products available. In other words, nothing new coming but the old stuff will still be available. Key words: "for the time being".Don't get too panicked yet....JBD

RE: MLT rides off into the sunset?

Although not entirely unexpected, it is still a shock to see MLT fold so soon!Fortunately, I have most of their releases including updates/patches, some of which I had only downloaded a few days ago!!I was looking forward to the release of the UP locomotive pack also. However, from comments in other threads, it appears that this pack may still become available courtesy of Danny Beck (thanks Danny!!) of MLT.Still, it is a sad day that MLT has gone. A former source of good products and services.MLT will be sorely missed!!

Kicking Horse Pass was an engineering achevement in real life and in MSTS. The Bridge Line, holey crap what a mess of tracks there. I love it. Cascades, Can't say enough. Perfect sounds, perfect textures, etc.I wish I bought more.Damn.-Dave

I don't think we have seen the last of MLT. As was stated on their forums before the website closed, they are going to try to regroup. I think the big thing was, they have been at this for a better part of 3 years (I think). They need a break. I do think they will be back but how soon, I have not idea. Yeah, Play are pretty good for most things. Of course we don't know what the stock levels are or what arrangements are in hand to re-supply the existing titles if they run low.

Its a sad, sad day for the train-sim community. MLT was very highly rated in my book. I'm glad I was able to get everything as it was released. It does look like they are trying to figure out a way to keep the products that they have already produced, available for purchase. Thoough we will not see anything new.

RE: MLT rides off into the sunset?

To Our Valued CustomersAs part of the restructuring process, Maple Leaf Tracks Inc. has ceased operations effective today, October 22, 2004. A shrinking marketplace in the Train Simulator arena has created a situation where MLT could no longer grow financially due to its size. For the time being, the finished product will not be available for sale, pending an agreement between the founding members of the organization. We want to extend a sincere thank you to all our valued customers over the past 3 years. It has been a joy for us to be so involved in such a small community, and to make people happy with the products we developed. Although the company will no longer exist, most members will continue to be involved in the commmunity, some may elect to start their own commercial operations, and some may not. Regardless of their decisions going forward, we are sure everyone will remain active in the community. Thanks for 3 wonderful years of enjoyment! The Maple Leaf Tracks Team.

Since this is post #1, welcome to the forums.
I agree that it looks like they are coming back with a new company, and perhaps a new approach.
However I'm a little curious as to why you say their stuff was becoming boring. There was a large variety in their products, you had Sandpatch and The Bridge Line which were eastcoast routes, KHP, a Canadian route, Michigan Iron Ore, a short line, and Cascades Crossing, a western route. There was quite a bit of variety in their products. I agree that the locomotive packs were excellent and worth every cent, but so were the routes.
For me their appeal was that they mixed things up a bit. I love 3DTS products, but so far they've only done California stuff, but it's still interesting. The terrain and stuff might be similar, but at the same time the details are different and that keeps it interesting.
I also agree that there is a lot of interesting stuff in the file library, but let's face it, many of those routes are also similar. I don't think the problem lies with the company or person developing products, but rather with the limitations of MTST. MSTS it's self can only depict so much as it has so many limitations.Jim.
