Well Folks, Time To Hang It Up – image 1

MSTS has came a long way since I first started playing it in May of 2001. The models for the game and the activities has made MSTS a true to life experiencem almost. Well, with the exception of bugs. I have met a lot of new people and made several freinds as well as a few enemies. I have enjoyed this forum, thru the good and the bad. But now its time for me to hang it up. Im leaving today headed for North Little Rock where I will start new hire/conductor training class for UPRR. I'll be staying in a hotel and I doubt that they have internet service, but they might. I'll be leaving around 2pm today. Im gonna spend some time with my son, and family and freinds.
Its gonna be interesting to see it from the other side of the fence. I listen to all of the situations and troubles that go on everyday in railroading, but now I get to be in the middle of it. As with every job, this has its ups and downs also. I am gonna go into this focused. I will be able to separate railfanning from railroading. There is a fine line. This is a very dangerous job and you can get hurt or killed very easily. But I have confidence in myself. So you all wish me luck and i'll check in whenever I can.
See ya'll later.

RE: Well Folks, Time To Hang It Up

Well I wish you the best on your new adventure. I have experienced on the side of the fence that you are going to. It was the best job I ever had. For myself, I found a large difference between railfanning and working on the railroad. I found that I like sitting trackside watching and listening to the whining turbo's or the howl of the traction motors exerted by the loco's as they went past. Sitting in the cab is a whole different experience in sound and view. I loved it and I think you will as well. With that said, keep your head in the game, you don't get many second chances out there if you make a mistake.Sincerely,Kep

Highball

RE: Well Folks, Time To Hang It Up

Good luck! Yes, it can be a very dangerous job, but as long as you remain focused and pay attention to what is going on around you, you shouldn't have any problems. Just remember, as with any job you do get a lunch/dinner break, so during this time you can pause for a moment to enjoy it! You know, the "WOW, I am finally on the other side!"Hey, you should drop in from time to time to give us all an update on how things are going. I am sure a lot of folks would be interested in hearing about it! Erik at SLW has posted a few times about his journey and it has been very interesting to read.Mykel

Good Luck with UP. I had started to go through the process of getting on with CSX here in New York, but as much as I love trains and as much as I would enjoy it, I couldn't put my family through that. The long hours, the being called up at all hours of the night. So I wish you luck, and I hope you enjoy your new job.Chris Bogley

Good luck with your new job. I really hope you will enjoy it. IMHO, working for a railroad company is a great job, I do it for 32 years, but most of this time at the office.
