Tomorrow UP and the city of Omaha will announce the plans for a new Keneifick Park that will ultimately be the new home for the two locomotives. A few years ago they were moved from Kenefick park, then located near the Omaha airport with the reason being that the two giant locomotives didn't really fit into the new 'welcome to Omaha' theme, the new convention center, and river front development. They were moved to a fairly inaccessible area between the old Burlington and Union stations, and near the current Amtrak depot in Omaha. The new park will be located near the Botanical Gardens in Omaha with the locomotives located on a bluff just to the north of, and over looking Interstate 80 (and ironically overlooking the BNSF roundhouse to the east). It's said there will be a spectacular view of the locomotives from both eastbound and westbound I-80. The park is scheduled for completion sometime in 2005, and so far no one has given any clues as to just how the locos will be moved to the new site.

It's a big secret as to how they'll be moved .But I did hear that a couple of storks were going to come in during the night and deliver the locos to the new park before day break .Claude Debnam NS Piedmont Division Raleigh EastBig Boy 4023 and Centennial 6900 get new Omaha home – image 1

>> come in during the night and deliver the locos to the new park before day breakAw, darn... I was hoping they'd do it in daylight so I could get some photos. I did hear that a couple local heavy hauling/house moving companies have turned
down bidding on the job. it's only a few miles they'll be moving, but it's all
residential neighborhoods in between. Maybe Steve Lee can come take 'em
apart there, and put 'em back together at the new place.... don't know what
he'd do after lunch though....
