Hi, I live in Florida ,and I also have family lives in a town called Mena,Arkansas on the OK and AR Border My brother in law said that reader, ark had a railroad and that should take the kids down there to ride the Trains. Well when we got to reader, arkansas the place looked like it was left for dead. Any idea if the railroad will be opening soon since Im staying arkansas for just a couple of months I was hoping that all of our family could go down there, but since it looked like was closed I guess we won't get to ride a steam train in arkansas. Anyone know if it is closed or when it will be re-opened? "Jesus Saves" (People not Railroads.)
Eureka Springs has a SHORT run steam train ( few miles).. but look at Bentonville or near by, there is a passenger train (not steam) in one of those towns or close. Branson Missouri, across the border north from Harrison has a passenger train.. again, not steam.worst case, do a web search of tourist train in Arkansas. I am across the border north, and know for the 3 I mentioned but know nothing about your spot.
Well I'd contact Larry Friddle, I ain't got his email in hand, but send him a PM, lfriddle, and ask him about it. I know because he built a route that runs right through there. Thanks and glad to see some Arkansas folk, Jonathan

Sadly, I don't think there's any steam powered excursions being run at the Eurkeka Springs & North Arkansas tourist railroad at this time. I'm under the impression they use the SW1 to power all trains. The Reader operation fell on hard times and as you have seen, is pretty much over. With the new FRA boiler mandates now in place, it is going to tougher and tougher to keep marginal steam powered tourist lines operating. They will either turn to diesel or fold."Those were the good ol' days".Andre MingVisit VSC's temporary web page at: http://www.vscalecreations.comVisit VSC's Forum at: http://www.3DTrains.com
