- You're sitting in your easy chair watching your favorite railroad video and you press "4" on the remote, hoping for a trackside view instead of a cabview- While watching a fast scene on that video, out of curiosity you're subconscoiusly looking in the lower-right corner for the fps display- You're amazed at how "authentic-looking" the tracks on the video look, thinking "Gee I wonder if they used ScaleRail"- You visit railpictures.net, see a cabshot of an F7 and say "Hey - looks just like the one in MSTS!"- You have more miles of track on your computer than all the real railroads combined- Those 250GB hard drives sure look attractive, now, don't they? - Your e-mail inbox is flooded with new message notifications from each of the multitude of forums you're subscribed to.- You actually read each message.- And take notes!Enjoy, Frank

- You check the horsepower to ton ration after loading up at the Wal-Mart Supercenter.- You blow the horn, 2 long, 1 short, and 1 long at a major intersection.- You hear a knocking sound and ask the conductor (wife) to inspect.- You comment just how nice of a job they made that Tehachapi Pass route look like the MSTS version.- You put a numberboard on top of your SUV.- You paint "4723" on both sides on your car- You have a timetable printed up when you run errands

- You consider buying video of a line in order to replicate the consists shown. (No, I haven't thought about Alcos in the Highlands for this very purpose...)

- You spend hours on the Internet trying to find passenger consists, and then get stuck because you can't decide whether your generic Budd lounge car can substitute for a special-build Bar-Dorm-Lounge or not.- You research arcane individual railroad locomotive classification schemes for personal use, just so your roster in ConBuilder will be neat and orderly. (Canadian National, I'm talking to you. Anyone know what they called their C-Liners?)- You retitle over eight hundred railcars solely to make the creation of ConBuilder random consists easier.

Re the CNR C-liners. I think the Canadian Locomotive Company's CN designation was CFA-16a or CFB-16a for freight and CPA-16a or CPA-16a for passenger. The breakdown was that the CLC had the designation "C", the "F" stood for freight, "P" for passenger, 16 for 1600 horsepower, and "a" (or b,c,d,...etc) for the series delivery. Hope this helps. cheers,
Ernie

Here's a bit of info for engine number/ drawings I found on Google.

Speaking of F7 cabs, I just bought that new ATSF war/yellow/bluebonnet set from 3dtrains - wow. The rounded carbodies look totally authentic.

Here's my guilty charges!!!Your wife tells you to spend my time with your kids, so you paint up an engine with your child's pic on the side so he plays train sim with you!!!While sitting in front of your train game at 12:30am, your wife stamps in and asked ""When you coming to bed??"" you reply,"Just as soon as I get to my station."" You fail to tell her you just started running the complete route of the ADFRR!!You start refering to those jobs around the house that you get as ....Activities!The letters W,S,D,A, are worn off the keyboardYour wife wants to know when you will play with her that long...and all you can say/ask is where do I plug the raildriver in!

While drive I've commented to my conductor (wife), "This intersection needs an Advance Approach signal." Meaning a special sign that has flashing yellow lights to warn traffic on higher speed roads (usually 70 km/h and above) here when the next light is about to change from clear to approach. (I have no idea what else to call these sign/light combos.)I have considered designing a cab view based on the dash of one or both of my vehicles. I figure with minor adjustments to the idiot lights and guages, a Ford Ranger or Mustang display would look just fine. Perhaps not show any of the brake or throttle levers but who cares? Any comments?Cheers,

>Fords, the horn, etc. Door chime. Noted. Hadn't thought of that one. It's even more annoying than a loco bell. Especially when it dings every ten seconds when your seatbelt isn't plugged in.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-11-04 AT 02:51 PM (EDT)

1. When your driving down the road in Missouri and pass one of the many Route W's in the state. You give your horn 2 Long, 1 Short, and 1 Long Toot as you pass Route W or go down it. (The Default MSTS Whistle Posts do really look like Missouri Route W shields)2. You actually believe that a Dash 9 Locomotive can take a very sharp curve at 70 MPH (But you realize you have derail realism turn off)3. After you run a yellow light. You only go 30 MPH in a 45 MPH zone to the next stoplight to be prepared to stop. (I think everyone is addicted to MSTS now)4. You always wonder why in the heck does the conductor has to get out of the train sometimes to throw a switch when you think they can always do it in the comfort of their cab. (There actually many mainline switches that can be thrown in the comfort of your cab by dialing it in or calling a dispatcher to automatically throw it)5. You are just amazed that you can see a railroad signal from a mile out (Many people don't have Sig view yet)6. You wonder how they can have over 256 different cars and locomotives in a rail yard at once without having to phone to Microsoft. 7. You actually believe that track stays together when a train derails. 8. You wonder how that there can be more than 256 Lights in one location and the Railroad Signals still work. 9. You actually believe that Mega Roller Coaster is an actual route. 10. You wonder why you don't always see the smoke coming out of a locomotives stack. 11. When I pull out of Doc's Caboose Train Warehouse in KCMO I pretend I'm driving a Hy-Rail down the track and I give my crossing horn signal (Seen in 1). I do this all the time. 12. When you see a sign that say signal ahead with a flasing yellow signal and then see a red signal ahead, you wonder what is wrong with the SigCfg.dat on the signal system.

Ha! Great stuff here. How about:When the commuter train you're really riding in comes to a sudden halt in between stations, and you curse at the thought of receiving another pop-up message that reads "Activity over, coupler broken".or:Your wife calls you for dinner, but you must get to a station or a tower before you can hit the "pause activity" button and go eat. She just does'nt understand!Or even:During a long activity, you find yourself having conversations with your imaginery conductor, fireman, and brakeman; like hitting number 5 to switch to the caboose view, and at the same time saying "How's it going back there, George?"

You're probably safe until George actually *answers* you - then I think it may be time to line the switch, lay over on the siding and head on home.
