Hello everyone!Do anyone know if DirectX can be downloaded and installed without having to be connected to the internet? I think my DirectX that came with MSTS is not enough for TPII and Cajon Pass Route from 3DTS. When im in the middle of an activity I get the boot back to desk top. Unless im knocking on the wrong door, meaning DirectX is not my problem... All ideas are appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Derek any idea what it can be? Its a bad feeling when your into an activity and all of a sudden you get the jerky screen thing happening then you get the desktop then you get the send/dont send dialog box... i belive everything was ok but i added the TPII 1.62 update from 3DTS thats when my prob started to kick in. When i looked at the "Details" in the send/ dont send dialog box I see "kernel32.dll" and a couple of ".dll" files... I have no ideal what it can be. the specs on my system are:-Dimension 8300 Series,Intel Pentium 4 Processor at 3.0GHz w/HT Technology and 1MB cache
-512MB DDR SDRAM at 400MHz
-128MB DDR ATI RADEON 9800 PRO Graphics Card with TV-Out DVI
-160GB Performance Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
-SoundBlaster Live! with 5.1 Support You think anything can be wrong with this set up?Open for suggestions!?Thanks-Gerald

RE: DirectX 9.0b

directx 9.0c actually made my machine's graphics card slower and screwed up the startup and shutdown sounds in windows xp... learned that the hard way (had to reformat, reset bois) i'm gonna wait for direct x 9.1 or 10. some direct x versions work with some machines and not others ........ i usually dont go with beta directx versions, as they are not totally bug free......i have not had problems with non -beta versions, like 9.0, but 9.0n and 9.0c have caused some problems on machines i have had in the past, including this oneDirectX 9.0b – image 5Hauling America one pixel at a time

Ummm, isn't the kernel32.dll like the central DLL of the computer?! Sounds almost like a viral issue....

This shouldn't hurt your system at all with what you have. The latest official drivers from ATI can be found at ATI.com. There is a link in the news section on the home page. May help, can't hurt.DirectX 9.0b – image 9

Gerald,
The send/don't send is a later version of the old NT Dr. Watson dump. When an error is detected (no matter how small with MSTS) this error routine dumps a snapshot of everything that was in your computer memory at the time and what the contents of all the CPU registers were at the time. This is like a shotgun approach to error handleing. The cause is in there someplace, but so is every other blasted thing. You are going to see kernel32.dll and other .dll files. These are the files that makes windows work and are not necessarly a part of the Direct X system. Using the debug list is like looking for a needle in a haystack. I have been programming windows since version 1.0 and I can only think of one time that the debug dump actually helped me.I agree with the others that DX7 is not the cause of your problem. Your PC looks plenty capable too. I would suspect something with the latest items you installed or some other memory resident program running on your computer that clashes with MSTS. If you have XP do a control alt delete and pull up task manager and look at all the tasks running besides MSTS. Try shutting down as many processes as you can get by with. For example, do you really need your CD disk detector or windows messenger running while you are using MSTS. The more stuff you can cut back while in MSTS, the better. If the crash always happens in about the same place along the track, it is probably a corrupt shape or texture file. I have even had a sound file cause the same thing.Larry

RE: DirectX 9.0b

Hello Larry...I may have to try the advise you just gave. Over the weekend I installed a new catalysts 4.1 for the radeon 9800 pro... last night when i ran MSTS I did ok but when I pull up some of the windows such as the arrival schedule (F10) or the Briefing (F11) it kicks back to MSTS jerks for a minute then kicks back to desk top.. ill have to try your method now...Ill get back to you all.... this is the most challenging thing ive ever faced with MSTS.

RE: DirectX 9.0b

SOUTHERNRAILBOY,I’ve been using DirectX 9.0c for almost a month with the ATI 4.7 and then the Beta 4.9 Catalysts drivers without a problem. This was on a clean install of Windows XP Pro. Some people are having problems with DirectX 9.0c after installing it directly over 9.0b.I just installed XP SP2 this weekend on a clean install of Windows. SP2 includes DirectX 9.0c. I have not noticed any problems yet with SP2.

RE: DirectX 9.0b

MSTS requires DirectX 7, so I don't think it's a version problem.
However, installing the latest version shouldn't hurt.
There is the version which is installed without the need of a network connection (you need it, of course, to download it, but not at installation time; it's useful if you need to upgrade more than one computer or should you need to reinstall your system).Other ideas:
- look for the latest ATI driver version on ATI site; your graphic card is relatively new and the latest driver may solve some open issues
- go to Start -> Programs -> Microsoft Games -> Train Simulator -> Train Simulator Troubleshooter, click on Troubleshooting and see if some of the settings may apply to your problemHope this helps you in restoring proper MSTS behaviour! Umberto
