Grand Canyon Railway #19 – image 1

Today I was coming into the yard at Alliance (Texas) on the BNSF and I looked up and saw a steam engine. As we got closer you could see it was GCRY #19. Does anyone know if they are selling/sold it? It was in good condition paint wise but the looks of it were bad otherwise. -MattATSF GP60M #104 works on the local in Flagstaff, AZ.

Let me get Back on Track Here...
...I remember about a year ago the 19 was sold to the Canyon City and Royal Gorge Railroad in Bea-U-tiful Canyon City Colorado (with announcer voice there). They were going to restore her to opperation as she was only a staic display in Las Vegas (she no longer belonged to the GCRY). Now with the owner's current wranglin with the CHS on its Georgetown Loop Opperation, this might have fell through as now the CC&RG has a bunch of NG steam equipment that it could perhaps run through the gorge.

As far as steam builders I dont know. But she is either headed south or headed for the FWWR (like that will ever happen). I caught 19 today at BN North Yard which is right next to the FWWR yard.-MattATSF GP60M #104 works on the local in Flagstaff, AZ.

I don't think that is a B-Unit. It looks more like a car for steam heat./JonatanSteam rules!

>passenger cars, I may be wrong though. No, you are definitely correct.Notice the steam plume coming out of the roof?It does get colder than a witch's tit around the Grand Canyon in winter. Rode the GCRy in 1995, and it was 19 degrees when we left Williams...about 40 at the canyon itself.

RE: Grand Canyon Railway #19

Grand Canyon #19 was originally from another tourist railroad in Michigan, the Marquette and Huron Mountain, that went out of business. Do a search and you will find some web sites.

Yes but last I knew they needed more locos so way sell it why not rebuild it? As stated in a show about the railway called Thunder Under Heaven they said it was on static display but a good contender for a rebuild job along with the cars she was linked to and they had planed to restore and use 19 as well as the cars.

The GCRY has enough power they just need to paint it and restore it. They have 3 Amtrak F40's and a set of Via FPA4's (I think they are). So power wise they are in good shape they just need the money to restore them.-MattATSF GP60M #104 works on the local in Flagstaff, AZ.
