Jan-26-02, 01:47 AM (EST) "Can anyone tell me the file extension MSTS uses for scenery? specifically trees?" Is there anyone out there that can tell me the file type extension that MSTS uses for trees? I have come across a program that creates 3D model trees. I'd like to contribute SOMETHING since LongHairedWizard loves this place so much, but for the life of me I can't figure it out?Anyone interested in custom trees and other bush/tree type models for their routes? Please Email me at whatzamatau@hotmail.com, I would really appreciate it.Thanks againQueen...P.S. Good work Nels! God Bless You. Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

And objects have a file extension of .s for the shape file and .ace for the textures.IMHO, the trees that come with MSTS are awfull. So really neat 3D trees are welcome. In the payware route LTV Mining are fine real 3D trees, but as this is a payware route, these trees cannot be used by other route builders.I have seen postings that some guys had developed trees with TSM, but never seen of these in the File Library.Dick van den Hoven

"RE: Can anyone tell me the file extension MSTS uses for scenery? specifically trees?" ok, that's cool BUT the program I have is the MECN Tree Factory for use with 3D Studio Max. I can export into three different file formats LWO. DXF and RAW. Does This mean I have to import it to 3DStudio Max, apply the texture and then convert it?Forgive me for all the questions, I'm just learning.Queen

I think you better can ask this question in the Locomotive Forum, there are several guys who work with 3DMax.Sorry that I can't help you.Dick van den Hoven

You need to convert to .3ds format and then use the MSTS conversion tools to get it into .s format, then create the .sd
and .ace files..Tree Factory is a pretty neat tool, I should
see what Bryce tress look like as MSTS objects..cheers

Trees are pretty easy in TSM but I have to check out some things and I will be posting some eucalyptus, palms, bouganvilla etc. from the California landscape when I can figure everything out. The trees I have made in TSM do look much MUCH better than MSTS trees but I don't know yet if there will be a frame rate hit or not.
