How did the three railroads handle it? Did the WP take it to a certain point and the Rio Grande took it from there or did people have to change trains? I saw zephyr cars for the WP ,CBQ and Rio Grande that made me think there were possibly three seperate trains.
The WP took the train from the west to the Rio Grande. Then the Rio Grande would latch there power onto the train and the WP would take their's off. Next the same would happen when the Rio Grande handed it off to the CB&Q. On to Chicago it went and thats about it. So the passengers never got off.-MattATSF GP60M #104 works on the local in Flagstaff, AZ.

All of the CZ's passenger cars were in one equipment pool, each railroad had their own cars for the train, which were coupled together to make one train. Other passenger trains worked like this too.
