Brian:Is it appropriate or permissible to post prototype pictures in the file library? What policies exist with regard to what is "allowable"?Thanks... JBD
This question came up a few weeks ago, and accoridng to what was passed on by Nels, who uploads everything, he does not dictate what should and shouldn't be uploaded in a effort not to ruffle feathers or deture members from making some sort of contribution.Chris Bogley Syracuse New York www.msnusers.com/AshleyPhotography www.msnusers.com/cnytrainsWholesale Route Sales, Krispy Kreme, Syracuse NY Bringing America's favorite doughnuts to Price Choppers in Onieda, Rome, Utica, Cicero, Clay, Fulton, and Oswego NY, even if it takes me 17 hours to do it !!!!!!
Makes sense to me..... Still don't think that stuff that isn't train-sim should be uploaded (i.e. rail photos) but that clarifies it for me....thanks Chris...JD
Not true. Screenshots will be allowed in most forums as long as they are pertinent to the topic at hand. In other words, posting a screenshot to illustrate a model building problem or a RE problem will still be allowed. What will not be allowed are OT pictures. This is the word I got from Brian. I am sure this will be clarified later this week.Cal Rasmussen Beaverton, OR (My email is in my profile)Columbia Gorge Route (Phase 2-- Started)
My feeling has been that, in general, if the person who uploaded it felt it was something worthwhile, then it probably was. Most people are not going to take the time to upload useless files. What I try to do as file librarian is to make sure that the file is at least usable (the file unzips properly), has no legal problems and has an accurate description of what it is. I figure that given that, potential downloads can decide for themselves if the file is something useful to them.I do of course have my own opinions on what is useful and what isn't, but I try not to impose them on others. I've often been surprised to see something uploaded that I would have just trashed end up getting hundreds of downloads. What uploaders could do to help is to make sure that final part, creating the accurate description, is as easy for me as possible. Sometimes I have to search all over the place to figure out what an uploaded file is and even then I sometimes can only come up with a minimal description.
Sorry for the late responce, was enjoying trains on Providence Hill.Pics are allowed regardless within the forums. I'll let Nels handle the FL I'll clarify. Railfan Trip Reports belong in the Screenshot forum - not general, even though it would be a "general railroading" topic.thanks all
