How do I find the following topic within the Train Simulator Conference? http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID3/22642.html Thanks in advance. Roger
This only gives me a message telling me that it is not found on this server.I am also looking for http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID3/22639.html Roger
If you remember someone who posted to that topic or the subject of the topic, try doing a search and include the archives in the search. That would be about the only other way to do it. Also, it could be possible that the thread was lost. If I remember correctly, some of the older posts were lost after the forum crashed, I believe it was last year or the year before. I am sure someone else can clarify better.Hope this helps and good luck!Mykel
Yeah, some threads were lost, but archived threads usually give a broken link anyway since the IP address changes. I reverse engineered the numbers, "ID3" would be the main trainsim forum, "ID6" is the route forum, for example. "22642" is the thread number, so if http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID3/22642.htmldoesn't work, try using the format from an archived thread:"http://www.train-sim.com/cgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=(thread number)&forum=DCForumID(forum number)&archive=yes"Replacing Thread number and Forum number in that, I get;http://www.train-sim.com/cgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=22642&forum=DCForumID3&archive=yesorhttp://www.train-sim.com/cgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=22639&forum=DCForumID3&archive=yes
De nada.Benefited me too, since I was out for a while and missed the topic. I wondered why the MS/TA SD40-2 shape files wouldn't compress, and with my PO&N reskins I noticed that whenever I had the PO&N geep in the vicinity of the PO&N SD40-2s, I would lose some of the outside sounds. I just noticed today it happens with the default GP38 and the original 1.2 SD40-2, so possibly this is related. Proves my point that helping is its own reward, from my perspective I've gotten a hell of a lot more back from this forum than I've put into it. On the (more or less) same topic, anyone know why the emergency brake on the SD40-2 don't work? I looked at that section in the .eng file, seems to be about the same as the geep, yet no "big hole" for the SD40-2 when you hit backspace.
Towards the end of the ENG, add the lines:EmergencyStopToggle( 0 1 0 ) EmergencyStopResetToggle( 0 1 0 )

Roger: Let me know if you run into any problems with the SD40 shape files.@Jim: When applying the emergency brake on the SD-40, you must drag both feet, not just one. Helps the soles wear evenly. Now where did I leave them spare fuses?Hee-hee, little explanation in order, I'm an ancient hacker who don't really know anything about programming. Back in '89 I had a game called "Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe", combat flight sim from Lucas/Electronic Arts. I kept getting my tailfeathers chopped up by them heinies, so I cheated. I wanted something with the speed and manueverability of a P-51 with the ruggedness and firepower of a P-47, so I fired up MSDOS debugger, ran the hex dump, and copied the bottom half of the code from the P-47 file and pasted it into the P-51 file just to see what the effect would be. Did I mention I made backups first? Anyway, that kind of trial and erroring eventually got me the reverse engineering I wanted so I knew which "0B3C:0000 0E 1F 2C 00 FF 1A" etcetera did what, made notes on everything, and got a P-47 that didn't handle like a pickup truck. Take that, Fritz! Anyway, since that's my habit, I copied both Cyndi's and Mousy's hacks and pasted them into PO&N 2380, overwriting the text in the appropriate places and watching the ")"s. It worked, when I shoved the brake lever on the Raildriver all the way forward it did indeed go into emergency. Releasing the brakes also worked, if I was on a grade it would roll downhill after releasing the brakes, and stop again on brake application.Trouble is it blew the fuses to the traction motors. Moving the reverse lever worked, moving the throttle I got the power up/down response in the HUD plus the corresponding sounds, but the load meter stayed at zero and the engine wouldn't move. Tried punching the alert button and waiting five minutes, no joy, dead traction motors.Okay, so I got 3 of these things, apply Cyndi's hack alone to PO&N 2369, Mousy's hack alone to 1953. Cyndi's hack apparently changes the braking values, but no emergency brake, mousy's hack gets the emergency brake but blows the fuses on the traction motors, first application of the emergency brake and no more power. So, lazy as I am, I figured it was time to look at the differences between the GP38 and the SD40-2, here's what I found:GP38:EmergencyStopMonitor( MonitoringDeviceMonitorTimeLimit( 0 ) MonitoringDeviceAlarmTimeLimit( 0 ) MonitoringDevicePenaltyTimeLimit( 0 ) MonitoringDeviceCriticalLevel( 0 ) MonitoringDeviceResetLevel( 0 ) MonitoringDeviceAppliesFullBrake( 0 ) MonitoringDeviceAppliesEmergencyBrake( 1 ) MonitoringDeviceAppliesCutsPower( 0 ) MonitoringDeviceAppliesShutsDownEngine( 0 ) ) AWSMonitor( MonitoringDeviceMonitorTimeLimit( -1 ) MonitoringDeviceAlarmTimeLimit( 5 ) MonitoringDevicePenaltyTimeLimit( 0 ) MonitoringDeviceCriticalLevel( 0 ) MonitoringDeviceResetLevel( 0 ) MonitoringDeviceAppliesFullBrake( 0 ) MonitoringDeviceAppliesEmergencyBrake( 1 ) MonitoringDeviceAppliesCutsPower( 0 ) MonitoringDeviceAppliesShutsDownEngine( 0 ) )SD40-2:VigilanceMonitor( MonitoringDeviceMonitorTimeLimit( 30 ) MonitoringDeviceAlarmTimeLimit( 19 ) MonitoringDevicePenaltyTimeLimit( 0 ) MonitoringDeviceCriticalLevel( 0 ) MonitoringDeviceResetLevel( 0 ) MonitoringDeviceAppliesFullBrake( 1 ) MonitoringDeviceAppliesEmergencyBrake( 0 ) MonitoringDeviceAppliesCutsPower( 0 ) MonitoringDeviceAppliesShutsDownEngine( 0 ) MonitoringDeviceResetOnResetButton( 1 ) )The geep don't have a "VigilanceMonitor" section, the SD40-2 don't have either "EmergencyStopMonitor" or "AWSMonitor". By default the SD40 has the "EmergencyStopResetToggle( 0 1 0 )", but it's missing the "EmergencyStopToggle( 0 1 0 )" line, that gets the emergency brake working (but as I said, you can't move afterwards!). So I copied the entire datablocks for the "EmergencyStopMonitor" and "AWSMonitor" from the geep, pasted into the SD40 .eng file, overwriting the entire "VigilanceMonitor" datablock to eliminate it.That works, emergency brake on the SD40 can be applied and released repeatedly, and the power works afterwards. It's probably all wrong physics wise, I would think that there should be SOME delay after an emergency brake application and/or something to reset, but it works. Now all I gotta do is get to them .s files.
