Whoops!Looking at the pic's though, it looks like it was NOT on the point. I would have thought it would have been in the lead, than again, I saw a photo of the one BNSF (or was it KCS?) is testinig, and it was in DPU mode.Chris Bogley

Ahhhhh, just where those ACe's belong!!! I heard a rumour that KCS we sick up to thier stomach in regards to those SD70e's in regards to thier weight.As John said, I hope the crew is ok too! >Mike Forster<

Yea, it was on DPU with the SP engine in the shots. GM73 was on the end of the train but it is unharmed.ShaneUP shows EMD what they think of the SD70ACes – image 13

It actually looks like it survived pretty well, but of course hard to see how much damage the engineer's side sustained.

From the TRAINS Magazine newswire at http://www.trains.com/ :Coal-train derailment dumps EMD demonstrator unit in the river WOLCOTT, Colo. – Two locomotives and 9 cars of a 144-car Union Pacific coal train headed for Denver from a coal mine near Steamboat Springs, Colo., derailed about 2:45 a.m. Tuesday at Yarmony, 60 miles northeast of Glenwood Springs, dumping coal and an unknown amount of diesel fuel into a stretch of the Colorado River, according to a story in the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel and other news sources. There were no reported injuries.Among the diesel casualties, however, was nearly new EMD SD70ACe demonstrator unit No. 72, part of a mid-train Distributed Power Unit set, which came to rest partially submerged in the river. Another SD70ACe demonstrator, No. 73, was in DPU service on the rear of the train and was not part of the derailment. Trains Magazine sources indicate current plans for the 72 are for it to be rebuilt and returned to service. Shortly after the spill, work crews set up absorbent booms in the river directly around the coal and diesel fuel spill, which looked to be confined to about a 200-foot-wide area. All but one car and the No. 72 had been removed and placed on the other side of the tracks by yesterday afternoon. The accident happened 200 yards downriver from the Rancho Del Rio, a small rafting and resort operation with several riverside cabins. Several people sat in front of the small general store Tuesday to watch the crews work. The railroad expected to have the line reopened today.

I also read that there were EMD reps on scene. Almost sounds like something went funky with one of the demos.-Jeff
