Can anybody tell me about this group? I have my great grandpa's pin from it and I would like more information. I have done a search on Google for the subject, but didn't get any helping results.

When I was a young man and starting my railroad career the following organizations represented the operating craft employees:Locomotive Engineers (BofLE) and it still exist. Locomotive Firemen (BofLFE) long out of existence...I still have my 5 year lapel pin. Conductors and Brakemen...their unions were folded into the United Transportation Union (UTU).
The Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen was one of the unions, along with the Switchmans Union of North America incorporated into the newly formed United Transportation Union. There were orther unions involved, but I can't place them right now. I think this was in 1969 or thereabouts. cheers, Ernie
Don't take life too seriously, just remember what not to do next time around.
Brad...Ernie as the right answer to your question. In some areas the BofRT also represented switchmen but I am not aware of the Snakes ever representing any over the road operating personel! Best Regards
thanks guys, members of both sides of my family were members of the BofRT, and was just trying to figure out how they all became the UTU. Bradley Linda Waco, Texas
