Is CSX leasing any locomotives from BNSF? I keep seeing BNSF locs rumble through the CSX line near me. If theyre leasing, i hope they lease more. I love seeing those warbonnets.

It's probably just some run-through power. CSX usually leases power from First Union Rail Leasing(FURX) or Helm (HLCX).Greg ZollCSX Leasing? – image 2

RE: CSX Leasing?

BNSF runs several coal trains and some intermodal over CSX with BNSF power. And it works vice versa too as I see some CSX powered mixed bags, coal and taconite trains, and an occaiosonal intermodal here in chicago on the BNSF "Racetrack". Its nice to have those mixed bags break up the monotiny of all the countless BNSF intermodal trains.Kevin V.

RE: CSX Leasing?

Just the other day I saw an all CSX grain train on the BNSF. And UP has had quite a few intermodals lately, it seems like one a day or so...The BNSF Chicago line will have at least one of every Class 1 railroad's locomotives go through in a week. And countless other railroads.Joe LeMayOne of us Railfans from Downers Grove, IL

Joe, Its called the Aurora Sub until Cicero Yard. And I have been seeing alot of CSX Power, more specificly CW6600AC's and Dash-8's, and alot of Ex-Susquehanna SD45's marked for CSX and MRL.

RE: CSX Leasing?

Here in Syracuse, CSX trackage, it is fairly commmon to see UP units on CSX trains, normally intermodels. A few times, every unit in the lash up will be a UP. Likewise out west, home to BNSF and UP. It is just as common to see NS, CSX, even CN power on BNSF and UP trains. As already mentioned, this is normally just run through power.Chris Bogley

RE: CSX Leasing?

Actually, the AC6000CWs to my knowledge were all downrated to I believe 4400HP. The designations on UP and CSX i believe changed when this happened.
Here on the aurora sub or the racetrack as i call it, I see everything, and I had wondered what the SD45s lettered in stencils for MRL were...thanks for that tidbit of info!
And those UP trains that run through on the BNSF are part of what UP got when they took over SP. SP used to have run throughs and UP got the trackage rights which supposedly hurts BNSF a lot by giving them those rights.
And in a normal week, I generally see these on BNSF in Chicago-
BNSF, SF, BN, UP, MRL, CSX, NS, CR, AMTK, Metra, lots of leasing power, and occasionally something rarer like CN, but it does appear. As said, most is run through, nut it sure is cool to see all the colors go by!

RE: CSX Leasing?

One weekend On the racetrack I saw a train with six or seven engines, heading to chicago-BN GE leading, Conrail, WC & CN, and BNSF engines. All of these were pulling about 20 cars, mostly company service tankers. Probably returning "borrowed" power and moving engines around for the upcoming week.
