That is just the company that manufactures the equipment. Herzog provides a full range of services to transit agencies in the management, operations and maintenance of commuter, regional and light rail passenger systems. It just looks like a MOW that is clearing out the beds of trees and debris.Cheers

FYI: HERTZOG is in the BALLAST business as well. They have automated systems for laying huge amounts of fresh ballast. This train seems to be a unit train with a crawler crane designed to "clean and maintain" ballast.Pete Willard

Is it a optical illusion or is that narrow gauge track? It seems small as is the Mow train.

RE: Crazy looking thing

They had a bright shiney new unit very much like the one pictured reworking the ballast at the site of the coal load derailment a couple months ago near Oreapolis, NE. In the sun you about needed welder's goggles to look at that bright yellow paint.

Naw, that's standard gauge. You're probably just used to seeing locomotives "hang" outside the rail a bit more than that. On a related note (and this is juvenile but I can't help it) does anyone else giggle when you see "Do not hump" on those things?Blake Harris

On www.funnyjunk.com (not recommended for the lil' kids) there's a picture that of the back of some railroad cars (probably passenger) it said "Do Not Hump", but it was cropped so all you could see were the words.PS Yes I laugh a bit too, and I honestly try not to.

>things? You are not the only one who had a giggle. I am assuming that means the unit is not designed to be sorted in a hump yard. No doubt pranksters have used that stencil on items other than rail cars. Reminds me of a rubber stamp I saw when I worked for an Oil Company that read "TIGHT HOLE". (A 'tight hole' referrs to a drilling site where information is to remain confidential.)Cheers,

So, the curious part of me wants to know. What's the designation and builder of the locomotive there? almost looks kinda like an ICE train.BTW, you haven't seen ANY Ballast unloaders until you've seen Georgetown Rail Equipment's "DUMP TRAIN" in action.. That's pretty cool to watch. Bradley Linda
