Visit to the Dallas Railway Museum – image 1

Hello all, I am going to the Dallas Railway Museum in Dallas, Texas, this coming Wednesday. I will have a camera with me, so I will be able to take pictures of whatever you need. Go to www.dallasrailwaymuseum.com and look at the museum collection page and tell me if there's anything you want photographed. I can get into the cabs of the Frisco 4501 and the UP Big Boy #4018. I can get into almost all passenger cars and I *think* one caboose. Just tell me which locomotive or car you want photographed and I'll try and get it for you! Have a good day!

Sides and front I can gurantee. I am not sure about the back, because it may be coupled on to some other equipment.

I'm not sure I can get into the doodlebug. I got a visit to it a few years ago for a Independence Day celebration, but that's the only time I've ever seen it open to the public.

I don't need it for anything but if you could post a shot of the Big Boy. I would like to see how she looks and if you can find out if they are going to restore this one or not. Thanks.

RE: Visit to the Dallas Railway Museum

Getting a pic of the side view of the F45 will not be that easy. It is directly beside the building that you come out of once you pay. When I was there, it was the first unit in a string of units, so a good front shot is about all you will get.If I recall, there are 3 tracks that house all the pieces, with the Big Boy on one end, next to another steam. Overall I was pretty impressed with the wide range of equipment they had, just not so impressed with the cramp area in which to view them in, but I still manged to get some good photos of most of the pieces.Have fun, and take your time.Chris Bogley

You thought that was cramped, you wouldn't believe the squeeze that they put on the RR museum in Galveston. 3 tracks with very little room between them, but it's not much of a issue on account of the good selection of equipment.

Yep, I found that site too. It has been like that ever since I have found it (I believe almost a year now). I was just wondering if can get some new information on it. Thanks.

It won't be restored. The movie funding fell through, plus there's no railroad (not even UP) that will allow such a monster on its tracks...PLUS the fact that there are only a couple of facilities left that are even capable of turning her.The chances of seeing a 4000 run again are slim to none, unless a multi-millionaire railfan decides to do it.Blake Harris

RE: Visit to the Dallas Railway Museum

If Bill Gates was to get involved with trains he could at least advance train sim research and fix all the crap that's wrong with MSTS. And how about firing Kuju (although he'd probably buy them)?

RE: Visit to the Dallas Railway Museum

I had my doubts about it. I myself didn't think it is pratical, for one the divers are small for a passenger locomotive, it would strugle to hit 60mph, second it would be hard to take corners with it. I know of several corners that the 3985 can't take much less a 4000, and third the expence of operating of locomotive that huge. Thanks, I was just wondering if they where still going through with it.
