Jan-17-02, 03:56 PM (EST) "XP and Enditall?" My new pc has XP as the OS.I have been using the freeware utility Enditall for some time on my old pcs which were Win 98 machines. When I ctl>alt>del the new pc, I get a new task manager. (or at least one I didn't find in Win98SE)Is Enditall something that can be safely installed/used on an XP pc, or is it now outdated? Thanks,Ted Kessel Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Highlight the task in "task manager" then click on the "end process" box at the bottom of the task manager screen.Derek EngMod@leder.com.au Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-17-02, 10:33 PM (EST) 2. "RE: XP and Enditall?" On a XP system, there is no longer any need for a utility like EndItAll. XP is a totally different system architecture with completely different memory management, (greatly improved). Using older utilities designed for Win9.x would be very highly advised against. Jan-18-02, 09:30 AM (EST) 3. "RE: XP and Enditall?" Thanks for the information. I suspected it would be a possibly risky thing to try. It may also be less needed with the much larger/faster memory and faster processor of today's sytems, as well as the better memory management in a non-Win9x OS.Later,Ted Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

>A friend of mine uses Win XP and Enditall when using FS2002
>without any problems. Why? What kind of system and how much memory does he have? The advantage to using it prior to Windows XP with FS2002 would be to free up memory and resources. In a Windows 9X system this would make sense because of the way memory and applications are handled, in a Windows XP system this is no longer an issue. On my system right now I currently have 53 processes running according to task manager, no problem. Last night with about the same amount of processes I was running IE6, Outlook 2000 and MSTS with a new route while I made notes about it. While I wouldn't normally do this, everything including MSTS ran fine.I also have FS2002 on the same system and it runs fine, I don't do anything out of the ordinary just run it, with all of my usual processes running in the background. Well now, we don't all drive around in supercharged hot rods. The system in question has 500Mhz CPU with 128RAM memoryand there is no doubt Enditall helps to free up memory and improve performance.

I'm not saying you have to have a top end system, XP is what makes the difference in similar systems. 500mhz should be workable, the 128mb of RAM is fairly low for XP, 256mb is a better minimum with more even better. You don't need Enditall to free memory and improve performance, you just need more physical RAM which is still relatively cheap. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-23-02, 02:16 PM (EST) 11. "RE: XP and Enditall?" Have to agree with your comments on physical RAM
with the exception of it being relatively cheap. At least, not here in the UK. I do not know why, but RAM prices are extremely volatile here. In the last 2 weeks or so they have increased
by around 50% Me, I'mm waiting for the next downturn.Ken Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-24-02, 01:12 AM (EST) 12. "RE: XP and Enditall?" I usually use www.crucial.com, for me it's still lower than it was last spring but higher than last fall. RAM pricing is volatile. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-23-02, 06:34 AM (EST) 10. "RE: XP and Enditall?" If you hit Ctrl-Alt-Del in Win98SE you also get a Task Manager. It's not different from that except that in WinXP having lots of tasks running is not as bad as it was in 98. So even if you could use enditall, why would ya? Unless you're trying to run XP on a 64MB machine or something silly like that. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
