Jan-13-02, 06:51 PM (EST) "my new pc? " My "old" pc, although it seems to be OK, is two years old. It is an "unbrand" overclocked Athlon 500>800, 384 SD RAM 100, with a Hurcules/Guillemot DDR NVidia Prophet - 32 MB, Wind98 SE.A few things are a bit weird with it booting up, but once it gets going, it's fine. One reason I am ready to replace it is that although it flys FS2002 fine, there is a bit of a frame hit landing at ORD, and some other locations where 3rd party scenery is loaded. So on landing my frame rates can drop into the 6-8 rate.Anyhow, I purchased a Powerspec, which is a store-brand PC in US for Microcenter. It is a 1.8 Ghz Pentium IV, 512 SD RAM 133, with a Geforce2 MX 200 64 MB SDRAM video card, XP Home.I haven't installed FS yet, because my old MS FF joystick doesn't work with a USB, so it will need to be replaced. That's OK. Instead, I installed MS Train Sim,(which is keyboard operated, and graphically challenging, too). On my old pc, I get 40 frame rate, and no stuttering of the image, at a location/consist I chose as a "test."The new pc, with the game configured graphically the same, the frame rate for the same test is 30, and I get a stutter about once a second, very obvious when panning, and noticeable when "driving," too. The video card has a driver "5.1" from MS, it says. I went to the Nvidia site and got an MX driver, but am not sure if this is the problem, and have not yet tried the new driver. It's Win2K-XP_23.11.exe.Should I keep working on the new pc, either replacing drivers and/or the graphics card, or should I just get a different pc? I'm looking at the PCnut.com GamePro.Thanks,Ted Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-13-02, 09:45 PM (EST) 1. "RE: my new pc? " definitely put on new drivers from NVidia.some people have problems with the 23.11's. If you could track down a version of the 22.81's, that might be better for you. Or even a 12.xx driver. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-16-02, 05:33 AM (EST) 2. "RE: my new pc? " Might be a crazy idea, but try running defrag on your new system.I've heard that MSTS sometimes "stutters" when it has to call up a large file from the hard drive while it is running.Just a thought...
