RE: Has anyone used the 'physics mod" in EngMod

Hi Derek,
Your lack of feedback is probably a good thing. If all is working smoothly and everyone is happy, then they rarely give feedback. If the thing is causing constant problems, you will have enough email to sink a ship.

RE: Has anyone used the 'physics mod

Hi Derek !Have not used the Physics Mod before so I tried it just now.Getting a few messages like this one:Has anyone used the 'physics mod" in EngMod – image 2Do you want me to E-Mail you the engmodified.lst this function created ? I think it only shows the units it has modified and not the ones it could not work on, like the one shown above. A report to list those something to be added to ENGMOD ?Been meaning to ask you this question:Changing for instance the DAMPING values of Couplers in all items of Rolling Stock, can all be globally changed to a specific value irrespective of all the varying ones used by individual units ?Also is there a Help File somewhere my ENGMOD is missing, showing About only. Mine is Version 2.0.1.Thanks, Derek !

RE: Has anyone used the 'physics mod

Hi Otto,I have been waiting for some of those.
Have you modified Engtable.dat, if so can I have a copy?
Yes to engmodified.lstThe damping values on all units can be changed to any value you like.To change all of the eng files:-press the eng search button, when finished
click on 'damping' in the lhs window
click on the first unit in the list
drag the scroll bar right down to the bottomHOLD THE SHIFT KEY DOWN and click on the bottom unit (this will highlight all units)
put your new value in the appropriate place
click 'change value'now repeat for wag filesDerek

RE: Has anyone used the 'physics mod

Derek, engmodified.lst is on it's way to EngMod@sgrail.org !My Engtable.dat is dated 11/11/2003 and has not been modified by me.Doing a Global "New Value" Change of a specific parameter, does it change all irrespective of the "Current Value which is different in many files ? I can't remember how I did it when changing all my Coupler Settings a long time ago, using one of Bob / Plainsman's settings !I have 525 Consists and 618 Trainsets Folders.O t t o

RE: Has anyone used the 'physics mod

Otto,If you have Train Store, make sure EVERYTHING is unstored before you start. With V2 I have split up eng and wag files so unfortunately you have to do it in 2 parts.I had complaints about V1.x with trying to change an eng file parameter in a wag file caused an error. Can you give me more information on "does it change all" please or is it related to eng and wag files being done seperately. And yes, you can keep the old V1 exe file in the folder so that you can change ALL instances in one go.Just looked at the engmodified.lst that you sent, and it does not seem consistent with the error that you posted earlier??

> monkey or my mentally handicapped 11 year old cousin to do it I am neither of the afore mentioned ! Are you saying that you in fact have tried Physics Mod and Apply Physics Update and it gave you no Error Messages ?Derek,I am not using Train Store.I select Physics Mod and Apply Physics Updates. Processing this stops frequently, displaying the message I have shown you a Screenprint of.Have not checked into these Files to see whether the "Physics Update" has been implemented or not !Any instructions you want me to follow and test specifics ?O t t o

RE: Has anyone used the 'physics mod

Otto,The searchp error indicates duplicate file names for eng / wag files. When EngMod is finished it should produce a report on the files updated, did you get one?Another way to check on what had been updated is to use explorer, go to the trainset folder and search for *.eng and *.wag and sort by date, you will soon see what has not been updated.Derek

RE: Has anyone used the 'physics mod

Derek, run it again, getting the same Error Messages but made a note of the first few and looked into their respective TRAINSET Folders. Yes, there were Files in them showing the Date and Time when I run "Physics Mod".The only report I got at the end was the "engmodified.lst" which I E-Mailed to you before. The Files it complained about and I made a note of are listed in it ! O t t o

RE: Has anyone used the 'physics mod

DerekThe error that Otto has is exactly the same as I was getting during the beta phase, and no one else was. I have not used that function since then.

RE: Has anyone used the 'physics mod" in EngMod

Good morning Derek,I have thought about using it, but have been reluctant to try it because I wasn't sure exactly what it did.I use Eng Mod extensively to alter various parameters, but I've shied away from that particular feature because I kind of assumed it was a wholesale modification of the files to some preset values. And, since I change all my wagon names to my personal naming convention, and also change the sounds of all my freight cars to those of 3DPM, I don't want some arbitrary "default" value overwriting them.Maybe, though, after reading this post, I'll have to copy my train folder to my backup drive and give it a whirl.RegardsLarry Steiner
