G'day fellow Aussie! When I was last in Adelaide...Dad and I went out to Dry Creek Yard, back in the AN days and just when National Rail began operations, NR's were less than 5 months old. There was lots of trains, stack trains with NR's, AN Container trains with AN's/DL's/EL's, BL's on freights, V/Line trains with G's and X Class. A day AROUND Dry Creek and not in it is great fun! I hope this answers your question! Welcome to the forums!>Mike Forster< Perth, Western Australiapacificnational_nr103@hotmail.com
Hi Depending where you live take a trip down Port Wakefield Road (Hwy 1) and Just before you get to the Salisbury Hwy (coming from the city heading north) you will go over an overpass near the Dry Creek Loco Works and freight yards you can clearly see these from your car Loco Works on the Left freight yard on the right. I have seen numerous Locos from all over Australia parked near the Loco Works, it used to be called Motive Power but the name has changed now.Peter Harvey Adelaide Australia
>it used to be called Motive Power but the name has changed now.Peter, I think this could be the EDI Plant? Is this where the Freight Link FQ's were built, or was it Port Augutta (Port Augusta)? Thanks! >Mike Forster< Perth, Western Australiapacificnational_nr103@hotmail.com
Hello,If you have access to a car, drive out to Murray Bridge and Tailem Bend, plenty of freight goes out that way and there is lots of opportunity for spectacular photos (particularly at Murray Bridge which is a 1 hour drive north east of Adelaide). Beyond that, I recall passing a massive yard when I took a train out to Gawler, where you'll see double stacked trains, trailerail, the lot.Basically keep following the Standard Gauge and you cant go wrong!EDIT: If you havent been already, go to Port Adelaide, where the Port Dock Railway Museum is located. Well worth the visit.I live in Sydney, I have only been to Adelaide once, drove there last year (bloody long drive too, though I made it slightly longer by going via Broken Hill). >If you have access to a car, drive out to Murray Bridge and Tailem BendAwwww, I went there too! Back in 96...it was 830 and 600 class heaven!!! Murry Bridge was an excellent location to photograph! >Mike Forster< Perth, Western Australiapacificnational_nr103@hotmail.com
