RE: locomotive

Ohara
Just a couple of questions
Is the loco your first attempt at 3D modeling?
What modeling program(Gmax,TSM,3DC) are you using?
If this is your first project then you might want to try a far more simple project as on the hierarcy of dificult projects rolling stock is a bit more complicated than a static building or such about the most complicated thing you can take on is a steam loco(all that animation) so with the limited info I've got I'd say step back, take a breath and try something a bit simpler,I know when I first installed TSM I wanted to crank out everything from a 2-10-4 steamer to a Little Joe electric but found I needed to learn the basicsGary S

Ill bet 10.01 that he doesnt respond, because he never tried to make an engine, and so doesnt know what say.P.S. If he makes anything, he needs to make himself a brain.

RE: locomotive

I used Gmax, and since it is my first time, I don't know how to use it. I simply got rid of it after getting frustrated. I'll get again, but I'll need your help.

OK that narrows things down a bit, unfortunatly I am unable to help you because I work in TSM but there are tutorials avalible on line for Gmax.
Try posting in the loco design forum to see if anyone can post a link for you.
With that said I can't stress this enough, do the tutorials, start small and work up, if you try to jump in on a complex project you'll only frustrate yourself as you did with the first go.
or look at it this way,you want to learn to drive, you need to know the basics through drivers ed and such, you're not going to buy a car, jump in and then challenge Jeff Gordon to race for pinks, you'd lose your car,be very embarresed, and most likely get killed by wrapping yourself round a telephone pole.

RE: locomotive

did u actually try and do it? Or did you mean - 'what? you actually expect me to do some work? and actually open up GMAX? The whole point of this thread is for someone else to make it...not me.'

RE: locomotive

Difficult things are that much more satisfying to you then once you've made them work.
Now I'm not one who flames people but in some cases one needs to be blunt so take this as a constructive critique,"I can't do it because it's hard" is a piss poor way to go through life, download Gmax,do the tutorials and learn to build what you want.
Nobody and I mean nobody is going to put the same amount of passion into that locomotive, car, structure or route that you are, granted you are going to have projects that crash and burn, thems the breaks you get up you dust yourself off and get back on the horse.
Trust me learning TSM wasn't exactly a picnic either, documentation was sparse, most of the help files reffer to version 1.0 so you need to mentally fill in the spaces between 1.0 and 1.1 but learn it I did and I enjoy the satisfation that comes when I cruise down a route I've downloaded and see one of my structures or see a screencap and one of my structures or cars is in the picture,I can look at that and say "I made that and I'm damn proud".
Where would MSTS itself be if we all took the "I don't want to mess with it because it's hard" attitude you'd have gotten mighty damn bored of the sim already if all we had was the default routes.
So download Gmax and the Trainsim plug ins,get the tutorials, get them installed and then go to the mirror, look at the face in that mirror and ask who's stronger? me or a bunch of 0's and 1's? then take on Gmax, wrestle it to the ground ,beat it and make it your beeyach.
You can do the hard work and shine or you can sit there, say it's too hard and be a nobody.
It's up to you now apparently you've got a number of folks here that think you're full of it(and I'm begining to lean in the direction that they're right)you can prove us all wrong by learning some bada$$ modeling skills,we'll help but you've got to at least try.Gary S
