Jan-06-02, 09:40 PM (EST) "Anyone watch derailed?" For me atleast this one of the shows in the seris I missed or it was new, but I thought it was the better of the ones I saw, I mean atleast they showed the engineers point of view, and I thought his (and all of the stories) were very powerful.
But one thing that I didnt like was that they made Trains look bad. They made them look bad as in safety wise, and from my point of view, I would still rather take trains over planes.Your thoughts?Greg Marck

Jan-13-02, 05:01 AM (EST) 12. "RE: Anyone watch derailed?" Trains are statistically safest:Planes - almost always, all on board are killed after a crash.
Cars - crash daily (3000 die a year in the UK alone)
Boats - go missing, sink where no help avaliable.Trains - 90% survival rates, crash rarely, and never go missing.Further proof (if needed) I crash more often on flightsim than on trainsim.Euston
http://clix.to/trainsimNow avaliable - Conrail E8a from Simtrain UK Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-06-02, 09:46 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Anyone watch derailed?" I would ride a train cross country anytime! I don't think trains are that dangerous as long as there under control and the tracks are clear and hazard free. Trains are the #1 type of transportation in my opinon Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-06-02, 11:15 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Anyone watch derailed?" To me, The show tried to give trains a bad name instead of the people tring to beat the trains at crossing or walking the tracks. I liked the part of the engineer telling his story, it shows you just how stressed an engineer is at a crossing. I also agreed with him more should be done though, I really liked the idea of a barracade crossing gate ( you won't get though that at all). Jan-07-02, 02:05 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Anyone watch derailed?" I was (Robbie) and the engineer was my dad. I was a little disapointed in the show because it did seem to not have one main theme. Havn't talk to dad about it yet because he is on a potash train tonight and might see it when he gets to Regina Saskchewan for the later show. We thought dad would be introduced first and then different crashes would be shown and they (TLC) would keep coming back to the human element (dad). This would show the public that these big steel giants actually have normal, working people on them who just want to do their job and not have to deal with others mistakes. He has a program he calls 'crossing safely' which they never really mention. His program tries to let the public know what they are dealing with when they come up to a railway crossing, to get them to look twice and be more aware of them. Anyway www.crossingsafely.com is his website

Jan-07-02, 03:34 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Anyone watch derailed?" I would like to thank Mr. Armstrong for sharing his story and if he doesnt read this form I hope his son would pass this on to him for me.I bet people have thought of this, but since I dont have the ties, I thought I'd ask it on here. What if you put warning symbols on boxcars or autoracks, maybe it would reach out to more people.

Thank you. Those we my sentiments exactly. I thought it lacked in the story relative to the title dept. They seemed to harp too much on each story. I did like the raildriver's point of view though. People really don't realize what effect their stupidity has on an engineer....

Jan-11-02, 10:52 PM (EST) 8. "RE: Anyone watch derailed?" The last time I watched a program on trains and safety I Dont Remember the name of the Program but it shows a young lady being struck by a BN commuter Train. It upset me so bad I couldnt look at my HO RailRoad the same. So I try not to watch them anymore because of the unfavorble slant put fourth..Hey Dont Get Me Wrong I Believe in Safety First and Common sense. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-13-02, 00:15 AM (EST) 11. "RE: Anyone watch derailed?" A coworker had an MPEG of that lady getting ran over by the BN/Metra commuter train. Guess she was going through a divorce and had about 10,000 things on her mind at the time (that was her attorney walking alongside of her). How did the whole thing get caught on tape you might ask? A railfan was trackside filming because it was the last day of operations for the E-8s! Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-13-02, 05:33 PM (EST) 13. "RE: Anyone watch derailed?" As far as the program is concerned, the first couple segments made the railroad look like the bad guy. As the media ALWAYS does. I was sooooo mad during the UP derailment segment. Also, in the sunset limited segment "the cars dropped 50 feet to the bottom" BULLCRAP!!!! that was no more than 20 feet at the most, but lets dramatize it up real good!!!The film of the woman getting hit by the e-units...I know the man who filmed it. He still ain't right over it. I wouldn't be either!!!Kelley
