Search Bar – image 1

This thing has installed itself on my computer, reordered all my bookmarks, and even added new ones...Does anyone know how to get rid of it? What really bothers me is that it changes to reflect what I am looking at.The blue bar on this screenshot is what I am talking about.

RE: Search Bar

Right-click on it, somewhere where there is no button and see if it gives you an option to "Exit" or uninstall. Also, check the Add/Remove section or run REGEDIT and see if you can disable it in the STARTUP.

RE: Search Bar

I don't find anything like that from the View command. My Search bar goes down as an Explorer window to the left when activated. Smells like some spyware that has been installed as a tool into your Internet Explorer.Anyone click OK on some popup window asking to install some utility into your computer?SRV Ron

RE: Search Bar

If you will go to the top of your browser window and click the word "view," and from there follow the top choice of "toolbars," click the option "lock the toolbars," as it probably has a checkmark next to it. After unchecking it, uncheck the one directly above it called "searchbar." This is from spyware added to your system while you were closing a pop-up/pop-under window using the traditional "X" in the upper right-hand corner. Instead, for the future do a right-mouse click on the window color bar, and choose "close" and the window should disappear without adding any unwanted features to your browser. Lately the devious S.O.B's who write this trash have found a snaky way of installing their unwanted add-on's by including the "install.exe" command with the "X" to close the window, and "POOF" it is now installed and you gave them permission when you chose the "X" to close the window. The instructions are for the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser only, it will not eliminate it from Netscape, Opera, etc. When this is fixed, download and install the "Google" toolbar as it has a built-in pop-up stopper that is pretty effective in stopping this annoying crap before you ever see it.Good Luck!SeanK97

RE: Search Bar

I should also add this, when and if this trash is removed from your browser, make sure you have all your updates from the MS website, and also go here: www.lavasoftusa.com and donload this free "spyware" remover to clean the trash from your system. It is freeware, not spyware, so fear not. Make sure after installing it that on the first run through you check for updates of the spyware files list.Have fun!SeanK97

While you're at it, make sure that you get (and run regularly) AdAware, which is also a Lavasoft product. That may have been what he was referencing, but enh.
