Jan-04-02, 01:39 PM (EST) "video card issues" I currently have a 16mb 3dfx VooDoo Banshee graphics card. After researching this particular card at Gateway, it seems that this card is a 1x card. After talking with tech support at Gateway I found out that the systemboard I have supports a 2x graphics card. In order to get a 4x graphics card, I would have to get a new systemboard. In order to run train simulator without frequent system freezes, I have to go in the troubleshooter utility and check all the boxes. As stated by Microsoft Tech Support, having to check all the boxes in the troubleshooter is an inidcation of a video card problem. I am considering getting a Geforce 2 TI card (xtasy 5864) which is a 2x/4x card. Would I be better off buying a new system rather than trying to find a board that will fit a mid-tower case. Would this particular card work in my system? The rest of the system info is as follows:PII 400
256MB RAM
DirectX 8.0a
Windows 98 Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-06-02, 01:24 AM (EST) 2. "RE: video card issues" The upgrade choice depends on whether you will upgrade your current system, or build/buy a brand new one. If you think you'll keep the new video card, buy the best card you can afford, because it is one the biggest bottlenecks in gaming. Any of the newer cards (Geforce 2ultra, G2 Ti, and any Geforce 3's) will impress you. Keep in mind, you may not get maximum performance out of your new card because the cpu is a little slow, but will still show remarkable difference. If your motherboard will indeed accept 2x AGP cards, then any of the 4x cards should work. There is very little difference between 2x and 4x, so don't sweat it. Hope this helps.Jeff W.
