Jan-03-02, 01:27 PM (EST) "Would this have any value?" I have found an old National Geographic from 1927, with loads of adverts inside for Great Northern, UP, SP, Chicago Milwaukee & St Paul etc. do you think it would be worth anything (the cover is missing, but the rest is in okay shape).

Jan-03-02, 05:53 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Would this have any value?" Im sure its worth something, many of the roads from 1927 dont exist anymore due to merges and such, which should make it worth even more. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-03-02, 10:33 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Would this have any value?" I'm sure it has some nominal value to someone, but it's not really worth any money per se. Almost every periodical (from the most academic like Sloan Review to the most narrow audienced magazines like Model Railroader) has been scanned even going back that far. They're all available on databases like InQuest and Proquest (albiet for a high subscription fee unless you work at or goto college in which case the school library probably pays for such a service already). They're also available for free at most public libraries. You can goto the microfilm/fiche collection and print out everything from Nation Geographic articles from 1927 on railroads to SEC reports from Union Pacific. I'm sure somewhere out there is a person who HAS to own the original thing... but most people are either content with or prefer a pdf. It won't fall apart and has all the same information. And old National Geographics are a dime a dozen... maybe the only things more common are old Life or Time magazines.-Andy

It was amongst the periodicals in our school library in the earfly 50's - used to have that certain type of picture that a spotty 13 year old couldn't find other that in banned magazines.Happy days.Bill

Jan-05-02, 08:09 AM (EST) 7. "RE: Would this have any value?" I used to work in the Document Delivery depatment of HBS's library and such used ProQuest constantly... It's a pretty sweet service if you can afford it. About the only thing that even comes close is the similar service provided by DowJones. It doesn't have as many pdf's or as many titles though.-Andy

Jan-06-02, 09:41 AM (EST) 8. "RE: Would this have any value?" The book in good condition I guess it would worth something But all the books From 1888 to 1997 are on CD rom Compact and you can get good pictures from the discs
I bought it about 5 years ago for $275but I would think it would cheaper else where.
I took an interest in it as there was an advert about the delivery of Budd Motorized Rail Car which were delivered to the Commenwealth Railways at Pt August in the north of South Australia
Regards
