Dec-31-01, 07:43 PM (EST) ""Railway Maintenance" Book" I just got back from my local "Borders Books", where I bought a really cool book called "Railway Mantenance: The Men and Machines That Keep the Railroads Running", by Brian Solomon. The book is about half photographs (by far most of them in color) and the rest of the book is text describing the stuff in layman's terms. I obviously haven't finished the book yet (or started it), but it looks like it is going to be pretty cool. It appears to be all related to North American railroads. Here is the table of contents:
Track
Detecting Track Defects
Ballast and Roadbed Maintenance
Surfacing Equipment
Rail Grinding
Speeders and Hyrails
Snowplows
Yes, it does have some nice color pictures of "rotary snowplows" I payed about $25 for the book.OK, here is a question: Does anybody know of a good book which has features, pictures and differences in the various modern diesel locomotives (GE and EMD)? I would think that would be a great book. Let me know if such a thing exists. Thanks!

Check out "Locomotives", oddly enough, also by Brian Solomon (!) $30. I grabbed a copy at Barnes & Noble while searching for Christmas-present books for my family. It was 'my' Christmas present to me. Not all-inclusive, but quite fine nonetheless and a keeper.
Happy New Year, and thank you for your GP38 and your most informative website; please continue! I await your updates, and please consider the Eastern roads!

Dec-31-01, 11:54 PM (EST) 3. "RE: "Railway Maintenance" Book" Hi John,I have the "Modern Diesel Locomotives" book you are talking about, and agree that is an excellent book. I would definitely recommend it to anybody else as well.I was also at Barnes & Noble today and saw the "Locomotives" book. It looked like a nice book, and entered my "I might get this sometime" list. I probably would have gotten it today if it was a bit cheaper. ;) Like you say, though, it isn't all inclusive, and if such a book exists, that would be my choice. Thanks for the complements on the GP38-2 reskin and the website. My next releases are currently planned to be more GP38-2s. There is a possibility for an eastern road or two, but probably not the next few releases. My choice of railroads is mostly driven by which paint schemes will "work" with the default GP38-2 texture mapping. There ARE some eastern roads which will "work", so I will continue to keep this in mind. Thanks for the feedback.Judd Spittler

Thanks for the response and thanks for your efforts to make MSTS a more enjoyable sim for all of us!
And please consider skinning '70's and '80's Eastern roads; there are a sizable handful of us out here that would really enjoy a D&H or EL or (Fallen Flag) GP38-2 or Alco Century series (or other) download loco to throttle up and say 'Thank You', to you, for giving us the opportunity.
