Well as I watched the ZYCHO pass today I had two surprises. The first loco was a CSX 8037 I beleive and it was in the old paint scheme and the second unit, to my surprise was a CSX SD45-2 #8889. That was a classical set and I was glad that I did see it. So im giving the heads up to the people down south.
I think I saw that 8037 go through Sidney ohio during July sometime if I remember. I have a picture. It was in the grey and yellow scheme. I will have to look when I get home tonight..... was looking on the csx photo archives and the 8037 is on there and the one I have a picture of isn't even on the roster. According to csx photo archives also the 8889 is a SD40-2. I will have to check at home like I mentioned. Update later..
bah lucky you. i love the 8889 especially with the EL horn placement. CSX 8889 is a former EL SD45-2 that Conrail rebuilt to SD40-2 standards repowering it from 3600 hp to 3000 hp so externally it looks like an EL SD45-2 but internally it is an SD40-2. I believe the 8886 is also a repowered SD45-2.joe
Yep it was a SD45-2, but it did have SD40-2 stenciled on the side. man that is a long horn, looked like it was about to touch the back of the lead unit.
Maybe i will see it since i am heading down that way tonight. I also saw a CSX SD45-2 on the DGNO a Rail-America Railroad I wondered what they were doing with it.-MattATSF GP60M #104 works on the local in Flagstaff, AZ.
