Having just read a few things regarding to Kicking Horse Pass. Having just ordered this from Maple Leaf Tracks, I have not as yet received this but its on its way to me here in Australia, now it seems to plagued with problems or it seems to be so. Is it worth the cost I paid for KHP2 or is it best to return to Maple Leaf Tracks for a full refund, or would it be better to give it a try and sort out the problems associated with it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanking you all

Try the Patches, if there is any. The Rolling stock alone make it worth it. There isn't any freeware SD40-2F's out there. You might have better luck over at the maple leaf tracks forums.

I don't have the route, but I do know there is a patch to KHP2 - which upgrades you to KHP2.01. The patch is found at the Maple Leaf Tracks website.Let us know what you think of the route - I'm curious. Are there switching acts, or is it mostly end to end runs like their Sand Patch route? Depending on what you like, both can be fun.

RE: Kicking Horse Pass v 2

Kevin, you don't even have the route yet and you are already convinced that it is a problem filled route and wonder if you should return it?? That doesn't make a lick of sense. Most people will wait till they get the route, install it and see if for themselves.Personally, I have not seen very many post, if any about problems with KHP2......Chris Bogley

RE: Kicking Horse Pass v 2

Thank you for your post regarding the above. You are right I don't have the Route as yet, but its coming. I was checking on one of the Canadian discussion boards and saw a number of reports concerning Kicking Horse Pass V2, that's where I got my imformation from,I am looking forward to receiving this route in the mail very soon and will install it to find out for myself. There were also reports on this board that praises this route very highly, so I am happy to go along with what has been said on this discussion board.I am terribly sorry if I had said something that upset you one way or the other.Aussie FriendKevin

RE: Kicking Horse Pass v 2

I own KHP2 and in my opinion it is one of the best payware routes that has been produced. I have my MSTS set up on a AMD Athalon 3000 with 1GB of RAM and a Geforce FX 5600 Graphics card and have experienced no problems with using KHP2. The few posts I have seen about users having problems seem to be related to not having enough system resources for KHP2 to function properly. It is a very detailed route and requires a bit more horsepower than some.As another user mentioned it is well worth the money for the engines and rolling stock let alone the breathtaking scenery!

I agree. KHP2 is a dandy route, and I've not had a single problem right from the start. It might be an idea to try it out before you ask for a refund. I'm sure you will be pleased with it. cheers,

RE: Kicking Horse Pass v 2

I too, own KHP2. Though not particularly a CP fan, bought it on the strength of reading the many posts concernig it. The route installed with zero hitches, runs with zero problems, in all: Painless. The route gives a very good prototype feel, the sounds are excellent and charted new ground. The rolling stock and engine selection is wide and varied, well done. Cabviews are excellent. Activities run without standoffs. I've moved on to the Bridge Line simply because I like the D&H, but you should not be disappointed in KHP2.I have a puny 1.3 Ghz Celery, 256 RAM, and GeForce 4 MX 420. All sliders maxed (no shadows) and at the worst get FPS in the upper single digits when meeting AI along with loose consists. Kev,I own KHP1 and KHP2 and have never seen any problems like you describe. The OP of the problems stated that it used to work ok, but after some unrelated events khp2 was now playing up.
His problem could be fixed by a reinstall of khp2.Derek

I also have a copy of KHP2 and have very pleased with it. I have added a lot of extra CPR equipment to my trainset file and when I learn how to make up consists and activities will have a lot to use. My only complaint is that I didn't get into MSTS soon enough to get a copy of KHP1. Even though I now drive a transport all over the two countries, I still remember the eight years I worked on the Canadian, on the Schreiber and the Tor-Sudbury runs. CPTrainman59R

I've always pondered myself about getting it but I feel that the price is WAY too steep. $24.95 USD which works out to be a significant amount more in CDN *before* shipping which is another $20 freaking dollars if I go with Purolator... or I can pay only $4.50 and wait until the next blue moon for it to arrive. Whats more is MLT does not accept money orders directly to their head of operations in Ottawa, now I must send a money order drawn in US funds on a !US bank! to a US address. I'm not made of money for god sakes, all this works out to probably $60 if I go with Purolator. Thats ridiculous. It might be easy for a 30 year old adult with a paying job and good credit but I'm 17 year old student with no credit so as you can see, this is near impossible for me. Anyway, thats my view. I used to love MLT and was happy to pay for KHP1 but $60 is completely ridiculous. I'd hate to see what their next route costs.Kicking Horse Pass v 2 – image 5~The only way to ship~

RE: Kicking Horse Pass v 2

Then don't buy it. I think you are being a bit too extreme on saying it cost $60, when as you mentioned, some of that is to get it there faster. Of course it will cost more money to get it there faster, or you could just sit tight and wait like everyone else. The problem with how you pay doesn't help any either, but you shouldn't put the blame on them. If you don't have a credit card, how else are you suppose to pay for it.Yes, freeware is getting more expensive. Case in point is the $40 Surfliner Route. But how you pay for a add-on, and how you have it shipped falls on you, not them, so don't be so quick to say they are overpriced. Chris Bogley

I guess it has something to do with the company they use to process orders now. I think MLT doesnt accept money directly but works through someone else. How does that all work out anyway American to Canadian money??? I figured since you guys stayed in Canada you'd be gettin the best deal.

RE: Kicking Horse Pass v 2

By no means do we get the best deal despite the developers being Canadian based. Although the exchange rate between $CDN & $US has narrowed in the last year the difference is still enough to make it cost more than I'm prepared to pay for presently. I have a lot of respect for the work done by MLT and am very proud to see a Canadian group producing such highly regarded work. But I'm extremely disappointed that they chose to market through a foreign business and price their products in foreign currency. Based on the closing rate of exchange for yesterday if I ordered KHP2 today it would cost me in the neighbourhood of $40 CDN, if I purchased it with a money order and selected the basic airmail shipping. MSTS can be found in stores selling for $25 CDN or less these days so I've chosen not to purchase any individual MSTS add-ons now that cost more than that. I have more than enough software that I've paid for over the years that is now of zero value because of upgrades to the core product that rendered the add-ons incompatible and no longer usable. But don't interpret this post as an attempt to try and convince anyone not to buy MLT products or any other add-ons. Everything that's out there now, especially the payware, appear to be very fine products and I'm sure that the demand is there for them otherwise the developers could find better things to do with their time.Stew

My first question is what do you mean by "plagued with problems"?I recently received my copy of KHP2, have already completed most of the activities that came with it, and am extremely satisfied. KHP1 was the very first third party package I bought for TS and I was very satisfied with it as well.My 2c for the day.

So right! though I agree with him as to upgrades making activities from the old not work on the new. Sometimes the new OS you upgrade to kills the use of a program you had bought, not to work too, as in Trainmaster.
I wonder if someone would be willig to send a copy of the KHP1 to me on ICQ2003pro. As to being from " The last civilized stop before Alaska " I though I was there allready after loading Mikki D's French Fries in your town and then only making it east as far as the shell truck stop before getting caught in a blizzard for three days. lots of Railway traffic going by though.

RE: Kicking Horse Pass v 2

greetings Guys from down-under Auckland.New Zealand.yes, i too have been running "Kicking Horse Pass" for awhile now.
No problems with the install or with the runing of the simulation.
My only beef is with the overall simulation. I thought that for a
professional company that they would have done a better job with the
scenery - very poor. for what is available these days.
I found the route to be very boring.
If you want a good New Zealand route with excellent scenery may i suggest that you download from Train-sim. "SOUTHRAIL" it leaves KHP
for dead.
Cheers Guys'
